Vacations listed in signatures

I just thought it was a way to "get to know" fellow dissers and this being a Disney discussion board I thought it was proper. Kinda like personalizing our space. To me it is like picking out a avatar, putting cute sayings in, etc. I never really thought of it as bragging but just sharing info with fellow dissers.

Its not the signatures that bother me so much, its the "concierge" afterward that bugs the HECK out of me. It is so pretentious to say that. I do agree, its very helpful to see where people stay, to ask them specific questions about that resort. I have the BCV in mine, but I do not say for eg...610 points afterward or something like that! (I wish btw ;)). I think when people ask specific questions in threads about concierge, that is the time to answer them and be helpful if you have stayed at that level, but don't go and advertise it.:sad2:

how about....

last 3 trips on 3 visa cards and still paying interest on all three....., still! hehehehheheeee

MIkeeee

If I ask a question about a tour or dining and someone responds I like to check out where they've been and stayed and stuff too.
::yes::
if I'm planning a Disney HHI trip, and I come across someone that has a trip to HHI in their sig, I may ask them a question about it, or ask for some helpful info.
::yes::
Mine reason is pretty simple.........I list mine as sort of a journal. It really helps me remember who was there, what we did, etc.
For this reason alone, I wish I'd done it. We've gone once or twice a year since '97, but I couldn't tell you exactly, or which trip we stayed where. I find bragging on the boards and in person pretty obnoxious, and I don't mind that people put this information in their signatures (altho, I rarely read them), including "concierge". For the above reasons, I think it's a handy thing.

I have mine because I LOVE travel and Disney. It just makes me happy to see them there!:cloud9: I have given up other things in life to travel, so here is where I can show my priorities among like-minded people.

And it also helps me remember where I stayed and when. :)

This is why I do it.

Our last trip we stayed at CBR; we hadn't stayed there since 1993. The trees had grown a lot, but the walk from our room to the main building seemed familiar. I thought we must have been in the same building or close by, but couldn't remember offhand. When I checked the list later, I found that we had been in the same room! It was easy to find out because of my list. It's just for me and my use.

I've wondered why do people list all their vacations in their signatures?

I understand countdowns, we're excited and looking forward to and planning our vacation. But why list vacations that you took so long ago and not even to Disney.

Because they want to.

In the trip planning forums back in the day I used to find it helpful. It gives you an idea how well someone knows Disney & the hotels when you ask for an opinion.

I never noticed people with non Disney vacations listed

you know that you CAN turn off viewing signatures in your profile?

but then you would not get to see the pirate cats in MY signature!

In some cases it might be a family that have saved forever for that view, someone who just survived cancer, adopted a child or just wants the world to celebrate something great with them!
Be happy for them:)

When people drive a nice car or have a lovely engagement ring is that also showing off?:confused3

exactly!

I listed Poly concierge (we also had a MK view!!!) because we splurged for a 3 day stay after a couple days at a value. It was a big deal for us as we rarely do that and it was for DD's birthday. (Ended up we were lucky to be there as a hurricane came through and it was nice to have access to the lounge rather than be locked down in a room at ASMO!)

Sometimes we do things big - like last years Panama Canal Cruise/DL/WDW - but in between we do less: we took a no big vacation year before and this year are doing value (though I keep dropping not so subtle hints to DH that we would be better off at POR!!!;)

I list mine because they are great memories and it helps me to remember dates, where we stayed, which year we went through the hurricane etc...when posting. Believe me, I need the help remembering the details these days!!:rotfl:

ETA: I added the non-Disney cruises because I found it helpful for discussions on the cruise board.

Sometimes it comes in handy, knowing when or how often people go. If I ask a question about a tour or dining and someone responds I like to check out where they've been and stayed and stuff too. I don't write people off because of it or anything, it just gives their response a little perspective and lets me know a little bit about the person.

Ditto

Well, I hardly think that staying off-site or going to Shades of Green would constitute "bragging" but, um, sure, okay.

I did it because I noticed a lot of other people doing it and I, personally, found it helpful when I was reading restaurant reviews, recommendations for off-site lodgings, etc. I am more apt to take advice from someone who is well-traveled to Disney versus someone who has been one time. The trip schedule in the signature helps with that.

I've never listed my trips. I don't really know why either. :)

:lmao: Maybe you're lazy like me, PG.

ooo...jealous much? that's not a very magical attitude.

Why would someone be jealous? I'd say most people here have been multiple times. It's a legitimate question and one I've often wondered about myself. Very little on the CB is "magical."

I keep track of when I went and where I stayed with scrapbooks--of course, no one can see them online but I know and I figure I'm the only one who cares. When giving advice, I'll mention that I've stayed at such and such a place and how many times within my reply. Frankly, I tend to ignore the trip info in signatures and don't give more weight to someone's opinion because of their trips.

The only time I've ever seen it mentioned on the boards before is when someone makes reference to needing financial help or whatever over on the Budget board and then the Budget board Gods make nasty references to the number of trips that they had taken (that they shouldn't of) or the upcoming trip ticker (that they should of course cancel)...

Sad, but true! ;)

I never thought about as being a help to remember the trips, that's a great idea!

I did it at first but thought it seemed a bit like bragging so I deleted them.
But now as I'm recalling the trips, I may just have to list them in my signature. :rotfl:

I really only lookt at the pictures in everyone's signature, I don't notice the other stuff they may have in it.

I disagree with you being the only one who cares...
there are obviously many on here who DO care when fellow DISers have gone, and where they stayed. If not only for the fun factor, for those newbies who may have questions :)
Of course, not everyone views it the same...
thats why, to each their own...why question it either way :confused3

I said I'm the only one who cares when I (me, myself) have gone and where I've stayed. Since no one has ever begged me for a list, I'm sticking with that statement. ;)

I don't really care if others do it--but I have wondered why. I've seen some reasons listed here so I have a better understanding of why someone might do it. There's nothing wrong with questioning it.

That's an interesting question! :)

I've never listed mine - nor will I ever.. Even being a Disney board, I guess I'm just dense and don't see the point in it.. :rotfl:
