VA Profits

It does rather put the earlier debate about what they have needed to do to survive into perspective doesn't it:confused3

;) Just heard this story on the news and thought I would contribute to the VA cutbacks thread, which I will do.

This is the final nail in the coffin with regards VA's customer service as far as I'm concerned:sad2: I shall be booking our flights to San Fransisco with whoever comes in cheapest - hopefully BA, or AA:)

what are VA playing at? It now seems like they are using the currant climate as an excuse to introduce the cuts,

That said though I still don't care about the loss of pretzels,:confused3

apparently these results are for year to Feb 09 (what took them so long to report?) so dont include any impact from the most recent cut backs.

Profit has apparently been generated more from luck than judgement due to virgins lack of financial ability to hedge on the fuel like most other airlines were doing whilst fuel was at the peak price, so virgin were able to make the most of the recent drop in fuel prices whilst other airlines havent as they're using up the stocks they bought at $140 a barrel apparently.

Once that situation irons out and virgin are on a level playing field with the others again they are expecting a tough year to feb 2010 - which is why they've needed to introduce the latest service cuts.

apparently.

I agree with all of this.
I think they like many other airline companies will struggle this year hence the cutbacks.
I still dont get the pretzel's etc but then I dont rate plane food anyway.;)

VA themselves are putting profits down to successful fuel and exchange rate hedging (but, then, they would, wouldn't they?). Whether by luck or judgement, if the profits weren't generated by operational activities, it isn't a good barometer for ongoing success.
