USPS Tracking

We get out mail around noon M-S. One evening a couple of weeks ago DH went out to mailbox to put a card in mail. There was a second package of mail wrapped in a rubber band. He brought it in and as we started going through it we realized it was a day's worth of mail from January 2020! Mostly junk but a couple of bills, fortunately we had already paid online. Must have found that package when they were scouring the post office after the elections!

I am still waiting for the 2 pkgs that were shipped on Nov 20 to arrive. Still no further tracking info other than left NJ on 11/27 en route to a postal facility. Am waiting for a priority mail pkg that was shipped on Dec 6 to arrive,,it's now Dec 14. I mailed a priority box to FL last Thursday. Was supposed to arrive yesterday, tracking now says 'will be late arriving'. Just what are they doing with all these pkgs? They have to be sitting somewhere. One other gripe, I had ordered something from Amazon on Dec 6, which said would be in stock and shipped Dec 14. I look this morning and it says 'will be delivered by 10 pm tonite" , only problem is, there is no tracking info other than that. I called customer service, and the girl said 'oh,,that item is no longer available. You should have gotten an email telling you that, but I see you didn't. You can buy it from a third party seller. I said I don't think so..the item was $18, and the 3 that are available thru them are double and triple the price. We ordered quite a few Amazon gift cards yesterday, she said they should ship today or tomorrow and be there Friday. I said they better be, since the money was taken out of our account 1 hour after we ordered them yesterday! It's just very frustrating to all of us..we try to order early, knowing that it was going to take longer to get things, and even when shipped priority mail,,they don't show up. On the other hand, a company sent my husband a free replacement blood pressure monitor. They shipped it last Friday, and we got it Saturday, thru USPS..so some pkgs can make it through!

We had a USPS shipment disappear a couple weeks ago, after receiving an "out for delivery" notice. Amazon ended up having to replace the package. Last week our neighbor approached DH asking if we had seen their Amazon package that USPS was supposed to have delivered. Unfortunately, we hadn't. DH told him that was all too common here & he needed to contact Amazon. We now have another Amazon package in USPS limbo. I wonder how much money Amazon will have to lose, before they stop using them in locations that are constantly not delivering packages on time or at all.
Well, I'm quoting myself as I eat a big helping of crow. Our envelope finally arrived today. It had apparently been lost in the first sorting PO, because it was scanned through there twice. I should have posted this last Monday. Maybe, we would have gotten it last Tuesday & MIL wouldn't have had to worry about it for so long.

We get out mail around noon M-S.
Our mail arrives anywhere from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm (if at all). Used to be pretty consistent arriving around 1:00 pm, until about 2 years ago, then started being at random times, and it's gotten worse in the last 3 months. If it's not here by 9:00, they hold it and deliver it the next day (maybe).

And we're not in a rural situation, southern CA urban outside Los Angeles.

Ugh sorry to hear about the out of stock issue :(

I mailed 5 things from Pittsburgh on Monday - 3 flat rate envelopes and 2 medium flat rate boxes. All supposedly have 2 day delivery. One envelope to Wisconsin and one box to San Francisco say our for delivery today. One envelope to New York and one box to Seattle say tomorrow. Other envelope to Bakersfield CA says Friday. Seems somewhat random, but not unexpected. I am surprised about the SF box getting there so fast.

I sell on Ebay. This is becoming rather normal with USPS.

I have sold quite a few things lately via ebay as well, and some of the items have been "in transit" for many, many days.:headache: I've had one item, dropped off at the post office, show as "accepted" from the same post office a week later from dropping off, and still not showing leaving that post office. What is up with that? :worried: One customer of mine filed a "Package not received" dispute, even with tracking number. I filed a lost item claim with USPS, and they see it in transit, but cannot say when it will arrive. What is a person to do?

I ship a fair amount of packages due to ebay stuff (95 packages in last 90 days) and I have had very few issues until this year. Almost everything goes USPS.

Right now I have:
-Priority mail package that has shown no movement since post office receipt scan on 11/30
-2 first class packages that have shown no movement since a distribution center on 12/8
-3 packages that were dropped off at the post office inside drop box on 12/7 that have not shown a scan yet
-4 packages that were dropped off in the post office drop box yesterday that have already gone through the regional distribution center
-First class package dropped off 12/8 that was delivered in Texas on 12/14. Handful of others that were shipped first class and delivered in less than a week also.

Like... I'm okay with delays but the inconsistency is what really bothers me. I have no idea what to tell a customer when tracking has shown no movement for 2 weeks.

Worst part is that most of the stuff I sell is under a pound and FedEx/UPS are at least double the cost for items like that. Not a big deal for an occasional shipment but with higher volumes it adds up quick. USPS has been reliable for me historically but this year has been spotty and it really went off a cliff after black friday.
This is my world right now, what can we do? I feel bad for the customers, and I'm sure I will get dinged on feedback.

It's retroactive to the post office they think you dropped it off at based on shipping address. It gets added after the scan at the regional distribution center.

Falsifying data gets people fired in my industry but it's okay for USPS.

You can open a package research case through USPS but to be honest, it does nothing. USPS just hopes it shows up on tracking before they get to your case... and if it doesn't, they'll send you some form letter about Covid affecting shipping times. It gives the appearance of not being a deadbeat seller though I guess?

So I received a package that shipped 12/2 today. It was supposed to arrive on 12/4, That's how far behind USPS is in my neck of the woods.
