USPS Tracking

Sister-in-law lives about 25 miles away. I shipped her gifts last Monday via UPS Ground for $9 that were delivered the next day. She shipped her package last Saturday for $21 with the USPS and it just came today.

Just another example why I rarely send anything via the USPS, regardless of the time of year.

I had a package via DHL from Malaysia earlier this month. DHL was late...by 1 day. It took them 3 days and normally it’s 2. They moved 10,000 miles in 3 days which was late and it took the USPS 7 days to move a local package.

DHL is extremely specialized though. They of course specialize in international shipments. And if you want to use their US domestic delivery services, those generally work with the USPS like a lot of the other services getting criticized for delays.

Our Christmas cards from Shutterfly shipped on 11/27 and arrived on 12/23 (very late). Most of the gifts that I ordered from Etsy were similar timelines. I would never hold the Etsy vendors responsible but it was very frustrating having to scramble for new gifts, especially during these times. I would imagine it was equally difficult for them dealing with all of this. The ones I contacted could not have been more responsive.

I have to say my Amazon, Kohls, Macy, etc all arrived within a reasonable time frame.

The USPS 2 day Priority pkg I sent last Froday was scheduled for delivery Monday, then magically it became "In transit...item will be late". Still no delivery.

The item I ordered from Amazon with guaranteed delivery before Christmas back in November was due Dec 11-17. Never showed up, and the delivery changed to the 23rd...then the 26th...still not here.

Have to wonder if the USPS tried to undercut the big carriers - fedEx and UPS - for Christmas shipping and just bit off more than they could chew.

I read somewhere else that someone who picked 2 day priority mail was quoted it would take 11 days to get to it's destination..

and I've had NO update on my package since Dec. 23rd....

so not sure where it is - hopefully on a truck from NC to Wisc, but I'm not holding my breath!

11 days is shorter than what I have seen with Priority... and if you think 4 days is a long time with no package updates from USPS, you're in for a bad time.

Recent Priority Mail shipments:
-Detroit->North Carolina: Mailed November 30th, delivered December 22nd. Scans were November 30th, December 15th, and December 22nd while in transit. Full weeks went by without an update.
-Detroit->Colorado: Mailed December 15th and still in transit. Last scan was December 24th at the Grand Rapids, MI distribution center. No scan between December 15th and December 24th.

I've had many First Class packages delivered quicker than Priority through December. Makes no sense but it's what I've seen.

We FaceTimed with my in laws on Christmas. My MIL asked if we’d gotten the cards they had sent, which contain a variety of checks and gift cards. We said no and she looked panicked. “None of them? We mailed those weeks ago!” :confused3 Don’t know what to tell ya. Baltimore to Atlanta might as well be lightyears apart in USPS time. She said to wait another week and if they still don’t show up she’ll cancel the checks and gift cards. She was kicking herself for mailing them. Apparently, she just wanted to Venmo us money but my FIL thought that was tacky.

My husband had a package scanned to be picked up on Nov 3rd and then it was scanned at one facility in CA. After that nothing. The package was finally scanned again almost a month later closer to our house, but still took over a week to get here.
I have been noticing that items are not been scanned at the different arrival locations as they are normally supposed to be. One major USPS hub that is terrible for that is Memphis. A FB group I am in were sending 8 birthday cards to the different members to sign and return to the admin to then send to the author the FB group is for. One card was sent out and it got to one person and when it went on, it hit Memphis and got lost in a black hole. Has to send out a second card and changed the way those signing it were passing it on. This time it got back to the Admin.

Having worked in the post office YEARS ago, at that time when you put in a forwarding address, the mail arrived at the original post office, got worked by the clerks to give to the carriers. The carriers then pulled those with forwarding addresses and put them in an area to be forwarded. Usually they went to the General Mail Facility and would be worked there. The average time was 10 days to 2 weeks. So even it you moved within the same county, it would take that long to get your mail through the forwarding system. General Mail Facilities are large facilities that handle a number of counties. There used to be one here in Panama City, but it was moved to Pensacola about 5 years ago. When I worked in the post office, the GMF was in San Bernardino. The office I worked in was in Sun City, CA in Riverside County.

1 of my packages, sent priority mail, is now on day 20, the other, sent priority mail, is on day 18. I don't care how backed up they are/were, there is no excuse for that. I used the 'where's my pkg' thing on the one going to FL, and got a reply back from that local post office that they are investigating the matter, and will stick with it till it's resolved.

I have a package traveling around the country. It was mailed from Seattle 12/15. It went to Atlanta, then another facility in Atlanta, the Shreveport. I thought for sure the next stop would be TX (its utimate desitnation). Nope, as of last night it is in San Jose.

My package is listed as out for delivery today..we will see. My other package hasn't moved or been scanned since December 19th.

Not a package, but we received a check we were waiting on in the mail today. It was mailed sometime around December 16. It showed up on Informed Delivery this morning, and thankfully we got it. We had one piece of mail show up on Informed Delivery last week that wasn't delivered (yet). Thankfully it was a mailer from our church and not money!

Well at least you got something!

My husband signed us up long ago for informed delivery but he said it's never really tracked packages well. I know it's worked for his dad for packages but isn't for us I guess.

Informed delivery doesn't always work well. It doesn't usually tell me if pkgs are coming, and when it tells me mail is coming that day, almost always it never shows up till a day or 2 later. Example..it showed we had 2 cards and a gift card (from my survey company , so I know the envelope) would be delivered Saturday. They got handed to me this morning. One of the cards is postmarked Dec 15, the other Dec 22, and my gift card is postmarked Dec 2! All first class mail..so what is happening to it? I called our local post office at noon to ask about the missing pkgs..she said their tracking shows nothing on 1 since Dec 12..and that the FL one is still 'in transit. I sent a pkg back to a company last week, I looked up tracking this morning and it says 'label created, but won't be tracked until in Post Office possession? I literally/physically handed it to our carrier..and the girl at the post office said it shows as being scanned by her and left our post office on the 23'rd. She said it's all a big mess,,and she'd never even heard of anything saying 'label created but won't be tracked till in their possession'..:(

I mailed a package from ny to md. It’s been about 14 days and it just hit the dc area. I hope it’s delivered this week.

I mailed a large envelope from Charlotte to Cleveland on Dec 7. It has been showing in Charlotte as in transit to next facility since Dec 14. I have a small business and a family member had ordered something for his sister for Christmas. I bit the bullet and resent it if Fedex last week and he got it Christmas eve. The original package may or may not ever show up.

I ordered from a small business with 2 day priority mail on Dec 10th. I live in CT. The store I ordered from is in MA - one state away. Tracking showed it shipped and received by post office on Dec 11th. It's now Dec 28th and I haven't got it yet. Tracking showed it was sent from MA to FL! Why FL - it only had to go from MA to CT! Next door! I could have driven there in an hour! So now it's in Tallahassee FL for some reason. Now it shows it being in transit arriving late. Who knows if I will ever get it. Same happened with my shutterfly xmas cards I ordered before thanksgiving - but I complained on facebook and they reprinted and sent them and got them in time. Mail is just so messed up right now.

Wisconsin to Indiana, priority mail, took 10 days.

I am sorry to all of those who have had packages and mail held up. I try to be understanding at how busy things are with the postal service, but this is ridiculous. Why are they charging people more money for things to get places sooner if they seem to have no way of doing it? It's not just one or two flukes that have happened. It's item after item after item.

My missing Christmas gift for DH arrived ttoday (was ordered Nov 27th and it shipped early Dece) along with a landslide of Christmas cards from various relatives. One card didn't even have a postmark on it. I assume my little post office had been sitting on a big back log of stuff.

Also arrived was the 2 day priority pkg my cousin sent us 2 weeks ago.

My day day priority pkg I sent my cousin is still in the wind...10 days missing.
