using WDW tickets before checking in for free dining

Does anyone know ... if we book on-site with free dining (proabably OKW) for, say, 9 or 10 nights and 14 day WDW tickets - can we use the tickets before we check into the hotel?

We would probably have about 17 days, and are thinking of combining a few nights off-site (to save a bit of money, mainly do Universal etc) with the rest on-site, but might want to start using the Disney tickets before we move on-site. Is that possible?

If not we'll book 12 nights on-site instead

I could be wrong, but I thought the Dining Plan was added to your room key, or "Key To The World" as they are known, along with your park entry.

Your right they were the DDP is added to your room key.

This is correct, your room key will have all your DDP details on it, so wont be able to use tickets prior to that particular stay. I had the same problem thats why we have had to change our plans.

It can work if you are able to start your stay onsite and do the offsite at the end though. I have been having a similar dilemma. I want to use stay a couple of nights at one resort before moving to our main one where our tickets and DDP will be added, but I would rather do the short stay at the beginning - which means no park access until we move. I am still having a good look at the options. If I come across any miracle solutions I will post them.

You use your room key for park entry until the tickets expire, even when you have checked out of your room.

As for your original question, can you do offsite and then onsite? I asked Disney about 3 years ago and was told no, stay has to be onsite to get tickets & free DDP then offsite but more recently people have been posting different on various sites.
