using VRBO and making an offer?

I read somewhere here that you can make an offer on a VRBO condo. I've been searching for that post and can't find it.

So can anyone tell me their experiences with VRBO? And if you've made an offer and if accepted? I used them once before but its been many many years. But with the economy and all, it makes sense they might accept an offer, as its better than not renting at all.

But how do you decide how much to offer, and how do you do it without offending them and then not getting the unit? Thanks!

I have not used them but want to tell you about something I heard regarding them recently. Be cautious because of the large numbers of foreclosures. It seems that a few people are offering their condo's who have lost or will lose them to foreclosure. Make sure you pay by CC so you have some recourse.

We've used VRBO several times to rent condos in Ocean City, MD. Most places list their rates on the site, and all you do is either call or email the owner. Never had any tpye of problem.

We used them once for a house for Disney and had no problems. We are using them again for a hosue in Turks & Caicos. I asked for a better deal an dit was declined.

I've made offers that were accepted, and I've also had owners tell me that their rates were firm. I've had a couple of owners that I never heard back from after I made an offer (may have offended them even thought I made a point of being polite). It just depends on the person listing. It can't hurt to try as long as you're very polite.

I rent out two condos via VRBO. IMO, it can't hurt to send an offer, if you feel the price is too high. In my case, I have good rates listed for my condos right on the website. I used to offer better rates if someone emailed and asked for my best rate. Then I figured, if I'm going to come down anyway, I might as well advertise my lowest rates. So now, the prices listed are the lowest rates. I still get people wanting me to go lower. :confused3 If the price is totally ridiculous, I just don't reply. It's a waste of my time.

Thanks all.
I'm looking at beach condos for spring break, but not around Disney this year :(

Wow, great info, good to know!

Good to hear from an owner. I wouldn't have thought to make an offer had i not read someone's post here. Think there's any wiggle room in rates during spring break? Considering the economy and not as many are traveling?
