Using Universal gift card @ Portofino Bay Hotel

Hi,
I just spoke with a nice kid @ Universal gift card hotline and he verified the information on the Universal.com gift card page that gift cards purchased online can be used at the resort hotels.
Before I press purchase, I just wanted to ask if anyone has actual experience using a gift card purchased through Universal.com for stay/meals at the Portofino.

I haven't used them but was wondering what the benefit would be over say a CC or Bank card?

Its a stupid thing called reward $ on my Disney visa. Since we will visit Disney before Universal, I want to have as many reward $ as possible.

I used gift cards for our hotel bill at PBH in June 2012...At first teh Front desk girl had no Idea what I was talking about but then i asked for Stephanie..and she took ccare of everything! We put all charges on our room key and gthe kids used the gift cards to pay for stuff the bought int he park..it was great!!
