Using points for Non-DVC WDW resorts

OK, I know I should know this, but I am thinking of using my points for a room at the poly or contemporary during the marathon. How do I go about doing this? Would it make more sense to rent my points to someone else and use the proceeds to secure a room at one of those resorts? Is this just a bad idea?

I guess it would depend of if you HAVE to use your points before a certain day or lose them.

The contp. has AP discount prices on rooms but even with the discount it was around 200.00/nite for a room in Dec.

If you don't have to use points by a deadline I think i would rent them and use the proceeds for a room. 20 points is 200.00
