Using Points for Disney Collection

Being a new member is exciting, but also creates lots of questions. Wife and I are excited about using our points for DVC resorts, but we have also both always wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian. I have read over the quidlines for using points towards the Disney Collection and staying at the hotels. The booking window is 11 months to 2 days in advance and a cancellation 6 or more days before arrival will result in points being restored to your account. These points may not be used for DVC resorts or the world passport collection and will expire at the end of the use year (sounds like a modified "holding account"). My question is two parts...1) Does this mean these points can still be used for the concierge collection? 2) Since the booking window is up to 2 days in advance, is it wiser to wait to book till the last minute in order to avoid penalties should the need to cancel arise? I know this may limit your options, but if you are planning on visiting during a slow time of year, rooms should still be available.

Yes, the points from a cancelled reservation at the GF may be used for something in the Conceirge Collection if you so choose. They could also be used for one of the options in the Adventurer's Collection or the Disney Collection, which includes the Disney Cruise Line.

The only restriction is availability at the destination resort. So it certainly doesn't hurt to wait if you think there will still be rooms available when you decide to commit your points to a non-DVC option.

Have fun planning!

Best wishes -

P.S. Welcome to the DVC Forums - don't be a stranger, now!

Also be aware that during the last 60 days of your Use Year, you cannot make a reservation for the Disney Collection, Concierge Collection or Adventure Collection to stay during that same time frame. The purpose of that limitation is to give DVC an opportunity to make a resesrvation thru CRO using those points in order to "pay" for the non-DVC option.

If the reservation is made prior to the final 60 days of the Use Year, there is no problem using points for that same time period at a non-DVC option.

Enjoy!
