My DH and I both have Nextel Direct Connect Phones and we were going to use them as walkie talkies....do you get service in all the parks?..Would there be roaming charges or extra fees???

I was trying to get away from bringing both a cell phone and a walkie talkie.

TIA!

I think as long as you have a National Direct Connect plan with Nextel, that you wouldn't be charged roaming, just using your DC minutes as usual. I'm not sure about how it all works without a national plan.

Nextels worked just fine in the parks. If you don't have nationwide direct connect then you will pay more--it depends on your plan. I believe only the initiator pays the higher charge, but again, check your plan.

Disney just had nextel build their world up with Nextel so my nextel worked great - all the staff have nextel. All of WDW has nextel service :cool1: - its outside the World you might have trouble

IMHO - I can't stand those things - why does everyone think we all want to hear their conversations + that annoying beep noise?

It annoyed me when my DH's phone would beep and then I could hear the whole conversation! When I got my phone - the first thing I asked the sales person was - if I had to use the speaker phone?- she showed me the button where you take it off the speaker...and my DH- said ----Oh - you can do that? :confused3

So I think part of the 'problem' is people dont understand the phone!!!!!

We used ours and they worked great! We don' have the nationwide direct connect so we were charged .10/ minute which I don't think was bad.

They have to be the most annoying things ever!!!! That abrasive beep and having to hear both sides of the conversation.....HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a longtime Nextel user I have to agree about the beep, you'd think with all the ringtone options they could come up with a beep option. My beef, however, is not necessarily with the Nextel users, ie. hearing both sides f the conversation, my DH and I use the "silent" mode all the time. My problem is with people on regular cells that think that everyone wants to hear their conversations. While on Ellen's Energy adventure last month we had a gentleman behind us that took three calls during the show and proceded to speak loudly in a foreign language the entire time. Another incident that infuriated me was a woman talking about her "hook up" the night before with the "bodybuilder", as she referred to him. She even admitted to the person on the other end that she didn't know his name. She went on and on about their adventures for everyone to hear in the attraction! :earseek: :earseek:
