Hi All, I'm looking for opinions for anyone that has used the stage 2 formula once a child is past the age of one. DD (just turned 1) has used Enfamil fussy since birth but now I'm thinking of supplementing her whole milk with stage two formula. I've been reading bad reviews on the Enfamil Toddler because of a new formulation. I was going to try the Similac Go and Grow I think it's called. Anybody have any opinions on using formula past age one. I thought about Pedisure but I thought I read that was for kids age 2 and older. Thanks for any advice!

Have you gone to your 1 year check up yet? At a certain weight children no longer need formula. You more than likely will be told to go to whole milk soon so don't worry about it.

I would definitely ask your pediatrician.

My kids are healthy and growing along the proper curves, my ped says that toddler formulas are a waste of money.

Your children and ped are different.

Why?

Unless there is a special medical need why would you need to do this. Most kids are on table foods or baby foods and are getting all their nutritional needs from solids and whole milk.

I also wonder why you would need a toddler formula? Most babies transition from formula to whole milk at about 12 mos old.

I adopted my DD from China so her doctor and I chose to keep her on formula past 1 year and then around 15 months began the transition to whole milk. Even though she was tiny for her age it wasn't recommended that I move to a toddler formula. If your DD is able to consume toddler formula would it be possible just to transition her to whole milk?

I didn't mind making formula but I tell you, once she was completely on whole milk the ease of it and the cost savings were wonderful!

Hope you find something that works for your family.

We had to until almost 2, as DD was very senstive to milk, and allergic to certain foods (milk, eggs, yogurt). Ped said that formulas, including second stage, are pretty good these days, and for kids with sensitivities, it worked out well, as it gave her extra vitamins, and worked her tummy into the cow's milk.

It allowed us to gradually get her to tolerate cow's milk - it worked for us! But, unless necessary for medical reasons, there should be no reason to use those 2nd stage formulas if child is eating a well balanced diet, that includes both food and milk.

You do mention she is fussy, so is this due to milk or food issues? If that is the case, then you might be like us, and have to use the formula and eventually supplement it with cow's milk, until baby's system can handle it.

Good luck, Tiger

DD2 was on Alimentum until 15 months because of lactose intolerance and low weight gain. That was a decision we made with her ped. DD1 was healthy and went to whole milk at 11-12 months. Unless there's a medical reason for it, there's no reason to stay on toddler formula.

It is highly unlikely that she would even drink the formula after drinking whole milk. They have a different taste and in my experience my children would not touch formula after tasting milk.

My son was on Isomil 2 until he was a little over 2 years old. He went on the Isomil 2 at 9 months old. But he has a metabolic disorder which does not allow him to have dairy milk. After the Isomil he went onto soy milk which he has been drinking ever since. It did take him awhile to transition to the reg. soy milk though. Every now and than he drinks rice milk as well.
As others have said unless there is a problem Drs. like them to start whole milk at around 12 months.

Thanks everyone. DD has been drinking whole milk and finishing up the last container of formula with her bedtime bottle. It seems to me that formula has way more vitamins than whole milk that's why I was going to keep it going even though she's drinking milk.

Formula has more vitamins than milk because, for the first year, the majority of baby's nutrition comes from formula or breast milk. After that, baby is eating more real food and getting vitamins that way.

I would speak with your ped. If your child is otherwise healthy there is no reason for the formula.

Right. After a year old you child should be eating vegetables and fruits to obtain these vitamins. The body will digest these vitamins better through foods then formula.
