Using FF points in best way --

DH has 3 times as many points as I do.

This is a trip for two for a wedding without the kidlets --(possibly a day in the world tho!)

Is it better to use his points for both flights? Or is it best to also use some of mine, to keep my account (more) active?

What airline?

Will any points expire at some time? Then use those first. Will the airline allow you use join 2 separate reservations if use yours and his points separately to make the initial reservations?

OR, can you buy coach seats and upgrade with miles. United does that and it is well worth the $$ and then miles to get a first class seat. I've done it several times. One time we even flew out coach and then used miles to upgrade to first class on the way back.
