We are in the last day of DCL's WBPC cruise. Our stop in Cabo San Lucas really made us want to stay there. I went on the member site and so see a resort mentioned there. Has anyone stayed in Cabo San Lucas using DVC points? What was your experience? How do you book?

Thanks,

There are numerous DVC RCI properties in Cancun where you can stay. I would suggest going to the DVC RCI website to see what your options are. I am also considering either going to Acapulco of Cancun and have looked recently at both. The thing to notice about Cancun is that most of the resorts are all inclusive. When you go into the resort page, the tab at the top will say AI and will tell you what the cost is per room or person. I only found one resort where the AI fee was $79pp. All of the rest, in the area where I wanted to stay, were about $2-4K per room.

Lots of people go to Cancun every year. Make sure you read the Tripadvisor reviews and visit the Frommer's website to do your research before hand. When you see the resort on the website you want for the week you want, you will need to book it immediately. If you wait, it will be gone--sometimes in a matter of minutes or seconds. Booking via the DVC RCI website is really easy. You pay the $95 fee online and DVC takes your points.

There are several aspects. MX is an easy trade as a rule and currently there are no trades that would be a good value given the way DVC is setup. Cabo is really 2 cities a little over 20 miles apart IIRC, with a corridor in between. Many of the resorts are in the corridor not in the cities but some are in the cities for both locations with another grouping just outside Cabo San Lucas to the South on or near the bay. Only a handful are in a good situation for walking and even then only to limited locations. There are some very nice resorts but they are simply easy to get for the most part and fortunately, not nearly as many are AI for the nice resorts in RCI like some other MX locations. IMO the best options are looking for a friend that is an II and/or RCI members and putting in an ongoing search for the acceptable resorts, looking for a private rental, working with independent exchange companies like SFX & TPI (both for independent exchanges that are often much better and for rentals.

I know there are a couple of people who have exchange and were happy but 160 to 270 DVC points is far too large a cost for MX IMO and that's more true now than it was 3-4 yrs ago. There are currently a ton of great resorts and weeks online (looking at regular RCI, not through the DVC link) however many are for 2016 for the best times over 2015 since many of these resorts deposit a full 2 years out. Also many of these resorts only have partial kitchens though it's usually far more than a DVC studio. They might have a 2 or 3 top burner and a convection micro with no stove for example. If it were me I'd try to get a week in each city or a week in the city for San Jose Del Cabo (? Grand Mayan) and then a week in the corridor or Cabo San Lucus depending on the best resort option available.

Thank you for replying. I think we will look at other options instead of using DVC points.

I highly encourage the area though we did prefer the smaller town of San Jose Del Cabo.
