Discover has 5% cashback on restaurants during the timè we will be at Disney next. Normally I charge using KTTW card and now MB. I would like to get the 5% back but with all of the worry over credit card theft do you think it is safer to just use MB?

Discover offered this promotion last year, too and it worked out very nicely for us. Saved 5% on all F&B....awesome! We'll be taking advantage of it again this year. You are pretty well protected using a major credit card if there is any theft of your info. I wouldn't worry too much, take advantage of the savings and enjoy vacation! :)

Thanks! This will be our first time getting the TW card. We normally have the dining plan so I thought it would be great to get that extra savings with discover!

This is well after the fact, but for the future, be aware that it seems that Discover classifies counter service and carts as "Travel/Entertainment" and not Dining". I used my Discover card in Q1 this year when dining was at the 5% rebate level. The places I went to offsite (Sweet Tomatoes, Fuddruckers and Earl of Sandwich (at DTD)) were classified as restaurants, but inside places, such as Peco's Bill, Columbia Harbour House, ABC Commissary, Yorkshire Fish, San Angel Inn (outside CS) all got classified as Travel/Entertainment, thus 1% rebate. Not sure if there's an appeal process, but I didn't spend enough to bother.

Note that the Discover promotion was Q1, so it's over. I know Chase Freedom has restaurants in Q2, but I was back before April started so I can't answer what the classifications are.

Discover is offering 5% cashback at home improvement stores for Q2. Purchase Disney giftcards at Lowes and use them to pay for meals at Disney.

Also, I used Discover to pay for a meal at Crystal Palace in January and it came back under the Entertainment category, but a quick call to CS straightened out the issue and got me my 5% cashback.

Yes, I was disappointed after getting my statement that so few of the restaurants qualified. I was surprised that Ohana didn't register as a restaurant. But same as you I didn't bother to call because I figured that wouldn't do any good anyways.

My guess is that the restaurants at Disney come up as "Disney". Meaning travel/entertainment. The system simply doesn't recognize them as being separate.

Beware of discover card!! They admittedly sold my account information to a third party insurance company that scammed my business into signing up for some type of health insurance.

They not only gave them my merchant account information so they could sneakily charge me their premiums. They gave them my personal business account information so they could directly charge my business account when I changed my merchant provider and they no longer had access. Discover admitted everything saying that it was a reputable insurance company but they signed us up via directory scam. (Go look up that little scam. You'll never say the word yes on the phone ever again!).

They were able to charge me for a year and a half without my knowledge. I never in a million years would guess a CREDIT CARD COMPANY would give out my personal information to people committing fraud!!! They are suppose to protect us from that. Need less to say I got my money back ($650) and told discover I would never accept their credit cards as payment or use one of their cards. They are a shady company and would sell your info to the highest bidder.

Are you saying that you didn't review your bill from Discover for 1 1/2 years? :sad2:

That's why you review your charges every month. How did it take you 18 months to realize this???

It was my merchant statement. Every time someone ran a card through my business it shows up on this statement. I looked through it for the first couple years but it's just a ton of transactions. Of course it was my own ignorance believing my merchant account was safe. I had no idea someone could bill me for something via my merchant account. Plus it was only. 40$ a month so I never noticed a huge increase that would alert me to fee increase. The point of the story is discover sold my information. The fact I was ignorant is irrelevant.

I didn't bother calling because I got no joy from another card promo (years ago) when I called re similar promo classification error. When I saw your post I thought "why not call?" Yippee, got all credit for Cape May Cafe & Columbia Harbor House charges which were classified as Travel/Entertainment. Thank you:thumbsup2

Hmm, maybe I will call too!

Thanks for the heads up. I was disapointed in January when Ohana showed up as a resort charge. Biergarten also showed up as travel/entertainment. I think I'll give them a call!
