Use different log in for DVC and MDE

For years, I've had the family e-mail for DVC. I used my own e-mail for MDE. I was on the phone for over 2 1/2 hours, with three different CMs/IT, trying to straighten out the problems that resulted. I couldn't link our reservations and I couldn't check-in online. I'm anticipating the same problems for an already booked January trip. The last CM I spoke with advised me to change the DVC e-mail after that trip.
It never dawned on me that a small decision, such as which e-mail to use could cause such big problems.. both before the trip and for the first two days of the trip.

you do NOT want separate logins. They should all be one. Sounds like they "linked yours"- once they do that either of your log ins will get you to the same MDE.

No, I think I linked them. I just logged into MDE with my accont and added the CRO and DVC reservation. Why is this a problem? What should I do to have the two different log ins/emails combined? Who exactly do I need to call?

Thanks for your help:)

the problem isn't really the email address. the problem is they have two different accounts for you in their system. One happens to have one email address and the other happens to have the other email address. So I'm not 100% sure just changing the dvc email alone will "fix" it. You have to get the two different things merged, which DVC MS has (at least had) the ability to do.

sorry- I can't find the link they send you to in order to merge accounts.

for others in the future- I did find this link to DELETE extraneous accounts. But I would only do this BEFORE you start any plans. I wouldn't delete anything while there are ANY existing reservations- even if it's some crappy dining think you dont even care about- who knows what disney IT will do. But it might be a good idea in the future to wipe out any non-DVC accounts you might have lying around by accident. I checked myself and looks like I have one i need to get rid of AFTER our upcoming trip.

You enter your email address then they email you a link that opens a page with all your accounts and lets you delete the extras

I posted the link in my post just above for how to delete "bad accounts"

It's not for sure a problem having multiple accounts, BUT can sure lead to problems. Basically if you have multiple accounts then your different items (resort reservations, dining reservations, tickets, and FP+) can get linked to the different logins which can make confusion and just a PITA dealing with things. BUT the big issue is that if you accidently get your tickets and your resort reservation linked to different logins then you can not book FP+ at 60 days out.

If you have a reason for multiple logins then so be it and be very careful (and probably don't do anything over the phone but rather online so you can be sure which log in you are connecting things to). But if you have multiple log ins for no particular reason at all this is as good a reason as any to do some cleanup and get everything moved to one.

I agree with mikek. It is a good time to get everything on same e-mail/sign-in, unless there is a compelling reason not to do so.
I think this is a problem that Disney should address. Don't all families have multiple e-mails?
I had to speak to a lot of people and one CM flat out asked me "Why did u do this (use a second e-mail)? Believe me, if I knew their system was so unforgiving, I never would have done it but I had no idea! If u r going to treat it like the crime of the century, then how about a warning? Bet no one setting up this system saw this as a problem. Still testing ??? This issue fails the test

Someone should tell that CM which questioned you, that years ago they wouldn't even allow DVC to use the same login as the regular disney account. We didn't ever get a choice, we HAD to do 2 different ones.

so not only is it a problem they should address but they actually caused it for some.

Yes! This is exactly why I had to create a different login.

What problems are people having that warrant the change? I have my DVC reservation attached to a MDE. Will my tickets be unable to attach? I'm concerned about calling them and losing things that are already scheduled.

I also had to create a new user name for my DVC account when we joined. I still use a different user name for the two accounts, but at some point Disney must have done something to merge them because my password for the DVC account mysteriously changed to the same password as my other account. I didn't make that change. Both accounts have always used the same e-mail address though, and I have always had to manually link my DVC reservations to the MDE account.

I have 2 log ins and it works perfectly for me. I've done the magic bands and FP+ recently with no issues there. I use both the app and online and never have a problem. For my MDE account I log in with my email, but for my DVC account I actually have a "name", BUT in my profile for my DVC account the email is the exact same as my MDE account. It seems as long as both emails, address, and phones are the same things link up for me just fine. When I make dining reservations they go straight to MDE, but when I make resort reservation via MS (online or by phone), I do have to link my reservation into MDE myself, but it's no problem and always works. THis is the same set up for my daughter and husband and it's not a problem at all. It seems the key is the email address. My husband actually had several older accounts and there was a website that Disney told me to pull up and click which account is active and which are no longer used. I did do that for him.

I use the same user name and password for all my various Disney accounts. Makes things much easier.

Totally off topic but your cakes rock!

Who exactly do I call to fix the logins? I called MS today and spoke with a woman at length about the situation. She put me on hold multiple times and asked me to go to the DVC sign in page and retrieve my user name which would act as a prompt to send me an email to change the login information. It seemed like she wasn't sure of what to do as she kept putting me on hold and consulting with someone else.
I never received an email and now I'm not sure who to call?

if you have everything fine for now then there's no need to change. The problem is they can accidently link things to the wrong account. If your tickets and room get seperated then you can't get FP+ in advance.

In my families case they fouled up when they took our existing pre MDE reservation and then linked it into MDE. THey put it on the "wrong" account for my wife. Since we have kids under 13 they created my kids under the wrong version of my wife. Since my kids were already on the other version of her (with their tickets attached) it made a mess. Normally i think you can fix it by just 'inviting' the right person from the wrong person. But you can't do that with kids since they are under 13 and can't have their own account. So with kids involved it gets more 'dangerous'

After that got fixed we've been aware to be careful and so no problems. But i just figure i might as well nuke all the various duplicate accounts i have once we get back from our upcoming vacations. I just dont need 3-4 different disney accounts with different log in credentials to remember for all. But just my 2 cents.

DVC MS is the right place.

When my wife called there was a bunch of putting on hold but if i recall they sent her an email. THere was a link to go to, at the link it asked for a code number (perhaps it was her member id- i forget) which MS gave her on the phone and then it linked everything up. THey stayed on the line the whole time to walk her through the steps but there was hold a few times, i got the sense maybe they were talking to IT but really dont know.

Thank you! I called and had the logins combined by a knowledgable and helpful CM.

I think I am going to have to call about this as well. I have a DVC reservation made from a month ago and I can't link it to my MDE account. I have 2 different logins, one for DVC and one for the other Disney sites. When I try to link my reservation in MDE, it says that this reservation is already linked to "My name", and if I believe I should not be seeing this to call. My reservation does not show up in MDE even after I try to link it and it says it's already linked.

My husband's MDE account, however, linked the reservation just fine! So I don't know what the problem is. I am guessing it might be this having 2 logins right?

I called Disney today for help because in magic bands and cards there were two of me listed. One I created and one it don't know how it got there. Both were linked to KTTW cards from previous trips( I also did not do this). I linked my AP to the " me" I created. I then linked a reservation for January and it linked to the other "me". Story of my life! My Disney helper explained that I screwed up. I should not have logged in with my DVC username. She said the systems do not speak. I somehow now have a "DVC me"I created and a "Disney Me"they created. HUH?! I have my pass linked to the wrong me?! She said to leave it as the system will still work. I am skeptical. I am linked to a me with no pass after all. Does everyone use two logins. Am I the only person who has this issue?

I had this same issue. DO NOT LET THEM TELL YOU IT IS ALL FINE. We were a group of 9. Went two weeks ago. I knew there was something wrong when we received 27 magic bands. Turns out every time I talked to a technician they created another "me," just like you mentioned. You REALLY want to get it cleared up before going. I spent about 12 hours over 3 days getting it fixed. Every morning I'd get it "fixed" and the next day the same problem, or worse-a new one, would appear. They need to properly link your accounts and passes. I was told the same thing you were and they were wrong. My annual pass was randomly linked to a stranger's account, who thankfully hadn't claimed it yet! Call back and ask for their bosses, bosses, boss. Your issue is a fairly unique one so there aren't many who know how to fix it!

I emailed dvc about this three months ago. within that week i got a response saying they merged the two and told me what login to use. Everything was perfect.

yep- that's the exact symptom- the reservation is linked to another MDE account that you cn't exactly get to until they link the accounts

Glad I have found this thread. Like all of you I have two MDE accounts/profiles.....both with the same email address but different nicknames.
I have called MS twice this week and spoken to three different CM's, and each of them tells me different things! Specifically I have been told that accounts can't be merged......that's different than what some others have said in this thread. One CM did try to decommission one account.....but that didn't pan out.
My issue is that I have already used my non DVC nicknamed account/profile and have Magic bands linked with it. I am happy to continue to use that account and ignore the other......this was the advice the last CM gave me. Now we have a DVC trip planned for next summer....I did link the reservation to my non DVC nickname and since both account are "friends" to each other.....I see the reservation in both accounts but with my DVC MDE profile icon. My biggest question is this....if the reservation is linked to a profile/account ....then I hoping all is ok and all will work as planned with the magicbands etc. I will add park passes and dining to the non DVC nickname profile later. Any advice or other users experience would be appreciated!

I believe all of this nonsense could have been avoided if MDE pointed all of us DVC members to sign up with our DVC login credentials right from the registration link!

Have a Magical Day everyone!!
