USA Women's Bathing Suits-Oh My!

Um.... I'm 50 and the girls were getting in trouble with their parents for wearing thong bikinis when I was in high school. Definitely not a new thing, they've been around for decades now.

Well this thread took a turn I should have but didn’t expect.

My problem with woman’s swimsuits isn’t the bottoms but the tops. I’ve had a large chest since I developed breasts. The tops or top half of one pieces have never given me enough coverage. I recently purchased a suit and had to purposely search for high neck suits. And even those have more cleavage than I am comfortable with in public.

I must just not be very "posterior centric"!lol

I have not noticed widespread use of low-coverage suits in the USA until just the last few years.

(No posterior size inference intended by the use of "widespread"!lol)

Now since I'm kinda boring - lol - my suits are on the tame side as well. But at the risk of derailing the thread, my rant is more about the poor quality now. I just want to know why I'm fairly thin, practically flat chested and STILL my suit tops stretch out to the point that they no longer fit and risk major wardrobe malfunctions after just a year or so.

I could see if I was "Dolly Partonesque" - but nope. I find something I really like, only hand wash, etc and it's still useless within 12-18 months - and then of course, the way fashion changes, you can never find the thing again.

You really think men don't have sexual feelings toward women in more full coverage bathing suits? Or regular clothes?
Why I really don't know. For the first time ever on the Dis I am completely stumped. Post pictures of a pretty model in a once piece vs a bikini and I'll get back to you on that one.

OK all kidding aside I guess it comes down to do you think soft porn like the SI swimsuit issue affects men? And if you do, then it stands to reason wearing that stuff would affect them too. Given that it was by far the top selling SI of the year and pretty much they don't turn a profit without it, well certainly at least some men are affected enough to open up their wallet.

I can't wait for a court case where a woman attacks a man and claims he was "asking for it" with his misogynistic attitude in her defense. That would be sweet.

I don’t remember where or when I read it. But some years back a woman was accused of setting a man on fire whom she claimed had raped her. He was acquitted and his defense lawyer practically put her on trial.

The comments were quite interesting, along the lines of:

Why was he wearing such flammable clothing if he didn’t want to get burned?

He didn’t even try to stop her from throwing gasoline on him. Deep down he really wanted it.

And other turnabouts on the bogus “aking for it” excuses.

I loved that Farrah Fawcett movie “Extremities” where she turns the tables on the man who attempted to rape her and puts him through hell.

Who are "The 15s"?
Young women celebrating their 15th birthdays at WDW, usually from Central and South America.

I don't think the change has been all that fast and I think it's about as far as it's going to go in the US. I saw many more thongs and very little coverage suits at waterparks in 2018 than I did last month. I was in Vegas in April and only saw one thong at the pool. I think the difference has been the cheeky and brazilian cuts are much more popular now than they were before. Even my wife who has had self esteem issues since she was a teenager has a couple of cheeky bikini bottoms. I'm a lap swimmer, it's been that way for decades in competition suits for women.

I think they are showing they are breaking free from our misogynistic culture. That is a good thing.
It's not working because crimes against women aren't dipping with smaller swimsuits. Just riffing but maybe we need another tactic that maybe men didn't design for women who fit their mold of the perfect female "specimen" that simultaneously arouses voyeurs while making other women feel inadequate, again just thinking out loud.

I much prefer where things are headed now with women posting realistic images of pregnancy, body sizes etc,. the newer sort of feminism embraced by many young women now is moving more towards self love IMO

I was horrified to discover suits with stuffed top bikini and tiny thongs for 8 year olds in stores when my baby girl was that age, bras too - like what...

My girls are 19, 21 and 25, I do not recall seeing things, but the explained to me that nipples were a no-no, the bras/tops were necessary to have complete coverage.

I see what you are saying but this is different. My DD is now in her early 20s & I am a fan of a modest layer to keep things warm and in place, but this is not what I saw at all. I am saying I often came across suits and training bras in the size 8-14 range that were filled with excessive padding and push-up sweetheart cuts to give the illusion that little girls were developed and it gave me the creeps. It happens with Halloween stuff too, just eww. Now maybe this is gone now, I'll need to go look as I shop in the next few weeks and I'll be very much relieved if I don't find any... again ewww.

I checked out a few websites, including abercrombie kids, and as I suspected, nipples have made a comeback for all ages. My daughters post bikini pictures (beach season), and I definitely noticed that those giant hard cups are long gone, replaced with thin fabric. I think it’s more about current fashion trends than wanting younger girls to appear bustier.

Just saw a paging Mr. Morrow review of the H2O Glow at Typhoon Lagoon and another vlogger Serena had a suit on that was crazy revealing.

Brazilian tourists are hardly compelling evidence on US styles. There are VERY different community standards for beachwear in Brazil, than in the US.

FWIW, I'm old. I was a teen in the 70s, when unlined crocheted bikinis were popular, so I'm pretty hard to shock. I also have a 15 yo daughter, and I spend a lot of time driving that crowd to things. My anecdotal observation is that every single one of them is noticeably more conservative when it comes to swimwear than my peers and I were at the same age. They are much more athletic than we were, and they have no patience with activewear (including swimwear) that creeps or slips unless you're lounging on a chair or standing still. They want suits that stay put when they play hard, and that keep the sand out of uncomfortable places, and that's what they choose when I'm shopping with them. (To be clear, I'm just driving; they go and shop on their own. However, I do end up seeing what they bought, because when everyone meets back up and gets into the car, they like to pull everything out and compare purchases. Also, FTR, these girls are not religious conservatives, either.)

Some of the females might want to increase the amount if their body which gets tanned. Reduce the number of white spots when they wear revealing clothing.
