Well, then you obviously were not in downtown Boston during any of the recent sports victories, were you? People get hurt and die during riots, not to mention all the looting that goes on.

You make it sound like the cops are just going to go around shooting this thing at people who are standing quietly holding signs opposing certain politicians.

They are not.

They are going to use it on people who are breaking the law. I'm not sure what kind of laws you have, but we have the right here to free, peaceful assembly. Peaceful being the key. You can't go to a protest and start throwing glass bottles at people you don't like. That's what we call "illegal" and I think if someone is that stupid, and chooses to start acting up like that, then the cops should be able to use this on them.

How is that overkill?

I agree. Less-lethal crowd control is going to help save lives and property. Using the old fire hose doesn't really help and tear gas can be quite indiscriminate.

Aim the pain gun at someone, they drop.

I have also heard of something being developed that was a ultra low frequency sound "cannon" that would basically aim deep bass sound at a crowd. It rumbles their bellies and can cause nausea and diarriah.

Nothing stops a riot like a group of uncontrollable bodily functions.

They had this device on the History Channel or Discover - don't remember. It was a history of riot control gear.

They are looking to find a devices that will subdue people without lasting effects or potential physical damage (ie broken bones by the bean bags, having the probes of the tazer enter the skin, etc)

According the the special there are a few things under development. Some using sound, some using EMF.

Its not a big conspiracy.

I can't help but think if they had used these during the Red Sox riot, the girl who died when a pellet gun aimed at a rioter hit her instead, would have survived with no more than having maybe a day or two of discomfort.
