Rumor has is US Air may cease operations this Saturday, Anyone holding a ticket you can fly standby on most carriers for a small fee(about $25.00, I think) good luck to all the US Air employees. :earseek:

Where did you hear this rumor from? Though I'm not suprised to hear it.

Well for one I work in the airline industry, and also US Air has some kind of legal matter going on that would require imediate shut down of operations , if the matter is not settled.

From the current news, I don't expect US Airways to shut down this Saturday.

See http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/business/s_292165.html

Clearly, US Airways is in terrible shape financially, but they're still doing everything they can to keep operating.

That would be huge news here in Pittsburgh, I have not heard anything. I found this in the newspaper:
http://www.pittsburghpostgazette.com/pg/05012/440674.stm

>>>>The federal Air Transportation Stabilization Board expects to extend US Airways' use of more than $700 million in bankruptcy financing past Friday, when an agreement between the two parties is scheduled to expire.<<<<

I think they will still be up Saturday, but unfortunately it looks like a matter of when and not if - especially with Southwest expanding to Pittsburgh.

This Saturday? I don't know. But the airline is going down (no pun intended!) one way or the other, it's just a matter of time, I'm affraid.

My dh has to go on some govt. business and they were told not to book on us airways because of all the problems. They were told this around Jan 1st. It is some national agency they have to use. So he is on another airline and has to take a route not through pittsburgh because of this. I feel bad for all the employees, our 2 old neighbors both work for delta. Such a tough economy these days!!

It's still up in the air (no pun intended).

1. US Airways might cease operations Friday midnight.

2. US Airways might have a brief interuption of service starting Friday midnight and lasting a few days.

3. US Airways might cease operations two weeks from now.

4. US Airways might continue indefinitely with uncertainty.

etc.

I watched the morning news here in Pittsburgh and nothing was said. The only thing they said was furloughed baggage handlers here were being offered jobs in Philadelphia with incentives. If this was a real possibility this weekend, I think they would be reporting it.

Where is everyone getting this information regarding USAirways closing? A source or article would be helpful.

SafetyMom--Thanks for some WONDERFUL news!

I'll be on US again tongiht, I'm very happy for the hardworking folks that fly for them.

A flight attendent of US Airways came into my work yesterday, and she said they weren't doing too bad, I said that I was thinking of flying with them in MAy, but was afraid of losing my money or bein stranded, and she said I have nothing to worry about...now she could have been lying, but?????????? Haven't decided what to do yet as far as airline tickets.

Anne, I have several flights scheduled on them too. Try to show them I appreciate them every time I fly US. Hope you have a great flight. :)

I wouldn't get too excited about seeing any of this as good news. The machinsts union is going to squeeze US Air like a juice lemon. They have a pretty long history of that and now they have the power to shut the airline down by rejecting their contract. Also the loan extension will certainly be the final straw for the federal loans so if they blow it this time they really are sunk. Let's hope it works out for all the people who work there.

SafteyMom thanks again for the great news!!! Still nervous, but glad money is in place through June 30th. :flower1:

I hope they squeeze the hell out of those idiots in upper management who have not taken one penny in pay cuts while machinists and other workers are being paid 30-40% less. All the employees at USAir are riding this out until the doors are closed for the last time, it's just a matter of how much they'll be paid until that day. The upper management has squeezed that entire company out of every last penny they can get their grubby little hands on, to the tune of millions of millions of dollars for years, with no long term financial plans in place.
