US Airways..gone by Saturday?

I hope they squeeze the hell out of those idiots in upper management who have not taken one penny in pay cuts while machinists and other workers are being paid 30-40% less. All the employees at USAir are riding this out until the doors are closed for the last time, it's just a matter of how much they'll be paid until that day. The upper management has squeezed that entire company out of every last penny they can get their grubby little hands on, to the tune of millions of millions of dollars for years, with no long term financial plans in place.

Hey no arguments from me. I'm just pointing out that the loan until June won't mean squat if they don't settle with the union.

I just found this thread. I need some advice. I was just getting ready to try and use some of my frequent flyer miles for clt to mco in early April. On one hand I'm thinking I should use them up NOW; on the other hand if I use them and there is no usairways in April then I'm sunk. Half my points are from the platinum usair visa and the other half from AE gold that i will transfer over... what should I do? Any opinions??

Because the union deal has to settled by the end of Jan. you may want to wait until Feb 1 and take another look. IMO no one can give you solid advice at this point. It is simply a matter of what you are comfortable with.

I was going to take a chance and book my FF tickets for our Nov 26 to Dec 2 trip. Then I found out Nov 26 is blacked out for Thanksgiving weekend!

I was wondering, then, if the 15th of this month is still a BIG concern? I thought I read somewhere that it was. We have tickets flying out on the 22nd and back on the 5th. I am really concerned, because there are 7 of us and that seems to make stand-by a bit difficult.

Thank you.

See the link Safetymom posted on page 1. That takes care of the 1/15 deadline.

Thank you! I had wondered if that was the case!

fam4jc, I suggest visiting www.flyertalk.com go to miles and points, then the USAirways forum. You will find up to the minute information on USAirways along with suggestions of what to do with your miles.

has gotten a reprieve for a while, possibly until June. That comes from the friend of an employee. Just count it as another rumor, though. We, too, have a friend who works for them but haven't spoken to him for several months. We hope he doesn't lose his job.

I heard an airline analyst interviewed on the radio show Fresh Air last night. He said he didn't think he'd make reservations on US Air for flight this summer. He said even springtime was iffy.

Made reservations for June 7th to June 16th a few months back prior to finding out about their problems. Maybe I am sticking my head in the sand but I think all will be OK. SafetyMom, thanks for all your updates, I for one really appreciate the current news that you are able to provide. Your last report, "More good news" I was unable to find the article that referred to US Air but thanks and please keep up with the news for us. I keep checking back to this thread. :flower3: Thanks

They just got enough loan money from the government to fly or carry them until June.

They just lost another major executive yesterday that went over to Spirit airlines :Pinkbounc and they did some promoting to fill the position.

I wound't worry about flying them for the next six months.

I so hope U S AIRWAYS makes it. It's such a great airline!

From your lips to God's ears.

They need to get more competitive on fares. Just for the heck of it, I checked fares for May 7 to 13, PIT/MCO. I got $313. According to the seat charts on Orbitz, 90% of the plane is empty. They aren't going to sell many seats at that price.

This whole thing is a mess. I need to buy tickets for my GS troop to Europe. USAir is by far the cheapest, but I don't know if I dare by May/June tickets for 8 girls and 4 adults on them. If it was just me it would be one thing, but.... YIKES
