UPS - UPDATED Decision reversed - Civil unions/same sex unions are not spouses

gggrrrr, well - at least they finally did the right thing. I think this was a ploy to just try and get away with not paying out benefits. I am still going to boycott UPS...brown just doesn't do ti for me!

Not sure why you'd want to boycott when they complied with the request and changed their stance? They did what the gay community wants, why continue to punish? Don't forget, Disney was not gay friendly at ALL for many years. Why not continue to boycott them as well?

UPS complied with the community's request, no need to boycott or not use their services.

I, for one, am happy with their decision. Regardless of their rationale, they changed their stance and the community should support that.

Rick,
With all due respect, I think you should read Cayla's earlier post as to why she doesn't like UPS. The gay benefit issue was just the icing on the cake for her. I found your reply to be a little harsh to her.

UPS is not friendly to anyone that lives in an apartment or condo complex in our area. The driver that services Cayla's building has had to be threatened with a harassment charge for her continual actions. Cayla works nights, and is home (sleeping) during the day. The UPS driver knows that. Regardless of what unit she has a delivery for, she buzzes Cayla's unit. It got so bad the condo owners association finally gave her a building access code.

I've been with Cayla when she has had to go pick up packages. You'd think she was applying for a top secret goverment clearence job, not picking up a $15 package.

My business has not and will not use UPS due to their lack of customer service and failure to settle accuratley and quickly on damages arising from mis-handled packages.

So it's a service issue and not really a pro-gay/anti-gay stance moving forward then. Got it. That's a different story.

Thank you hunny - well said. Rick, I am glad you understand the gay thing was just the final piece of a very sad and tired story!

Years ago I was typing out checks for my father's business - to pay the bills - I made a typo on the check to UPS - the check read "untied parcel service". To this day - I think the typo was probably the correct spelling of a company that has never had good customer service, and in my humble opinion goes out of their way to make people frustrated!

nope - brown doesn't do it for me...never has, and most likely never will.

This post is geared toward the service of UPS complaints not the DP issue. People do tend to embelish stories to make the truth sound worse than it really was, when they don't get their way. No matter what business it is. We are a society of complainers.

Wha...?

I for one would like to know who you are calling a liar? By saying we (posters in this thread) embellish you have called some or all of us liars. Embellish is to adorn with added or unrelated details.

What exactly was your point?

As for a society of complainers, speak for yourself. I write far more letters for kudos then I do for complaints. And when I do write due to a complaint, it is for more then a little thing. As for LGBT issues we as the LGBT community sometimes due need to complain to be heard. We are second class citizens to many. We are not complaining over a parking space, we are complaining over equal yet seperate rights in this case. Yes, posts in this thread veered off the LGBT issue. But as you saw from our experiences or in your opinion our embellishments Brown doesn't do it for some of us.

Maybe, it's just me, but I really do not know what your point was.

First, I didn't refer to anybody in this thread. What I'm saying is when people complain about a service(ie UPS) they usually make the driver or whatever look alot worse than what actually happened just to make their voice heard. We almost always only hear one side of the story. There are 3 sides to every story. You should give yourself a pat on the back for writing letters of kudos, that is very rare. I have no problem with the LGBT community fighting for their rights, I'm all for it. I had no problem with that issue. It just seemed this thread started to go in the direction of complaining about UPS service rather than the real issue. BTW, I hate UPS too.

hmm - I am not sure that everyone "embelishes" a story to get their "voice heard". I agree that it can happen. However, I did not intend to hijack this thread to make complaint with UPS service. I had earlier posted as to why I was not suprised that they made a stand about benefits like they did...and why I personally don't like them.

My partner (tiggr33) was defending my position to someone (RickNY) who was unaware that there were many issues with their service in my particular case.

My feelings about why they tried to deny benefits in NJ holds - I feel they were trying to avoid paying out a lot of money and also not realizing that they were making a big political mistake. It took the governer interceding to make them change their minds - to obey a law that was signed. Why are they exempt? This is not good for the community, because now other employers will feel they also can try to not pay the benefits. bad example of bad behavior.

I feel they should be held in sanction - because of the example they painted, the attitude they have (exempt from a law) and the overall bad taste this all left.

They did the "right thing" only when forced - so, is it really the right thing? or just a concession? Will they try to reverse the policy again? I say wait and see. I am betting they do NOT make it easy for gay/lesbian couples to get those benefits.

As far as a specific driver - well she has been asked many times to not use me as a super - I have the same issue with FedEx by the way. I did have to complain to her supervisor about it. I don't like being woken up to allow someone else's delivery - then also to be asked to sign for them!! The building has a super - use him. I am not paid to do that. I took it up with my building, and got her a key - no more issue. The pickup policy is silly - just plain stupid. Allow pickup for 3 hours per day for 3 days a week; and make me drive past 2 other depoits?? As a company -that is not very user/customer friendly; that is what I had said...my case...my issue...my dislike of them. Nothing more.
