upgrading tix & b-day questions...

Well...only 2 more sleeps. We are arriving on DS#1's 4th b-day and have decided to go back to the hotel for a rest (we get there around 3pm) and then hit the park for the evening and fireworks. We have a 5 day park hopper for my son (got with airmiles), if we decided to upgrade to a 6 day park hopper I know we just pay the difference, where would we do that (city hall, any other?) Is there a better time of day to avoid huge lines (like not first thing in the morning I would assume)? Should we do it on his b-day or is there any benefit to doing it later in the week? We want to get the b-day fun card for his b-day also (not entry to the park) so he can buy souviners with it. I've read a few conflicting things about getting the card, that you need to be admitted to the park or else they will insist you take park entry as your gift, is that correct? Is City Hall always busy, or just first thing in the morning?

I had the same question since we are arriving on DH's bday. I was told by DLR that proof of the park hopper is all you need to get the card. I doubt City Hall will be that busy in the evening to get his fun card (which is in the park anyways). I don't know where/how to upgrade a 5 day to a 6 day so hopefully someone else has experience in this to help you out.

Because you have a park hopper you would have the option of using the Birthday Gift as a gift card or as an upgrade on the park hopper. You can upgrade the parkhoppers at any Guest Service window including inside DCA, City Hall, and the ones to the left of the entrance to each park.

Options
Take the gift card and pay cash to upgrade.
Use the birthday gift amount to upgrade his passhopper.

If the cost of the upgrade is more than or equal to the gift card then use that.

Why? The gift card means you are spending money in DLR where as when you use the birthday gift amount to upgrade you are saving yourself cash that can be used off site or to buy churros

Since you have PH I would rec. doing your upgrade at Guest Services at DCA. Never as busy as City Hall at DL. Many times there is no line at all. Best time would probably be when you enter in the a.m.

Since you're going to the parks ON his birthday, it doesn't matter if you have to go into the parks; you're going anyway. You have to do that ON his b'day...wait to the next day and you won't get a thing. So take your rest post-flight/drive, then go over, stop at Guest relations or a ticket booth to get his giftcard (bring his birth certificate!), and go on in!
