How/why would the front desk do something like this - without confirmation from the owner? Sounds like that one would be easy to get the points back if they did that.

The front desk people do weird things sometimes.
 
For a better view, request far from the elevator, which isn't that far since VGF is small. Those rooms have better views and you could possibly see the fireworks. Some of the standard views are over the entrance roof, not a pretty view.

Most of what the front desk does at the shared resorts is work with CRO guests - they have little call to ever change things with a DVC reservation. So its probably covered in training - and then doesn't come up for three months at a time, by which time the CM has completely forgotten all policy information and does their best to figure out which buttons to push to meet the guests needs.

As to DVC fixing it - they aren't thrilled about renters and they don't have a lot of incentive to fix it, so if it happens its likely to take more than one phone call and getting bounced around from person to person to get resolution - which may or may not happen. Disney may tell you that anyone staying on your points is your proxy and you gave them the right to use your points for that reservation. It would be easier to get resolution from your renter.

It isn't likely to happen, since its far more likely that all the rooms will be booked and there will not be a room available to move you into.
 

I will not willingly/knowingly let front desk CMs do anything that will involve them messing with my points. The one time they did (took it on themselves to give us an "upgrade" which I didn't want and didn't request), I ended up with holding points and a big mess that I had to call MS to get straightened out.
