Has anyone ever been upgraded when traveling totally on points? If so, how and when did you find out? Keeping our fingers crossed....::MickeyMo

We booked on points and were not upgraded. I would not count on it, I've heard of very few being upgraded when booking on points. Good luck to you.

We to are traveling on points. Only we had to book one child cash. I am desperately hoping to get upgraded. Or at least purchase an upgrade at port. I told dh that we will have to arrive early on departure day as to make sure we are one of the first ones in line. I don't know how fast the empty cabins sell out, but I want to at least try. Good luck to both of us.

The only factors that seem to help is booking a low cabin (like cat 11) or a gty cabin.
We are going on our 5th disney cruise and have never been upgraded, two of them were paid total cash, one total points and two half cash half points.
There have been some DVC memebers that have recieved upgrades so it is possible, the best advice is book what you will be happy with and then if you are graced lucky you!

How do you pay for an upgrade when traveling on points? Where and when do you try to do this?

at the port. When you go to check in at the port you first want to know if the ship is sold out or if there are any other category rooms available. If there are you can purchase an upgrade for cash. I read somewhere on this board of someone booking cat 8 and upgraded at port to cat 5 or 6 for @ 350.00 or so. So I have budgeted extra $$ just in case. If not, I guess we'll be happy in cat 11.

I'm not sure if things have change but if you booked a cat 9 or higher it was about $350. to upgrade to a 4. If you have anything lower than a Cat. 9 it was over $1000. to upgrade to any level.

We sailed on points 2 years ago and upgraded at the port. They base your upgrade cost on the category cabin you are currently in and the one you want to go to. They have a chart which determines the cost.

Complimentary upgrades are few and far between for anyone--cash or DVC points.

Have a great cruise.

Any others have experience with paying extra at the port to upgrade categories? Examples of price you paid to go from what category to what would be great. Thanks!

yes please if anybody does know these costs let us know. I know I'm trying to work it into my budget, however I'm just figuring how much I want to spend and if it's more than that well I'm outta luck!!

This past July 24th cruise we were offered an upgrade to cat 3 for $1200, and were told it was very rare to have a suite available.

We had a cat 5 and 11 across the hall booked . We told them we would like to do the upgrade, but then when they went into the computer they had to apolagize because it had just been taken by someone else.

Oh well. We were just happy to be cruiseing because we had lost our birth certificates and were very afraid they would not let us on board. All went well, and we had the best cruise of our lifetime.(and this was our 6th cruise.)

Just curious as to how so many earned enough points to pay for their whole cruise. I would love to be able to do that! I didn't even know the Disney Visa Card had been in operation that long!

<center>I believe that they are talking about Disney Vacation Club.
