Updated list of Refurbs for 2014

The Little Mermaid was the only ride my dd3 didn't cry on last year when we went for the first time with her. She was terrified of almost everything else we tried. We rode it 10+ times in a day. She has been talking about it ever since, and about going on it with her cousins and her grandma and papa this spring, as we have a once in a lifetime family trip planned with everyone. I am seriously heartbroken for her. I get there are bigger problems in the world, but that was honestly the one ride out of anything in either park that we have been wanting to do this year with our whole family. Hopefully it opens a little early or gets shifted around. It really does seem a little ridiculous at how many rides have such long closures this spring. Maybe I just never paid much attention to it because I hadn't been in 10 years.

I know- this IS getting ridiculous! I finally could afford to get my very first Annual Pass (Premium) this year and so many rides will be closed for half the year! Seems like the worst year ever??

What about pooh? Or Peter Pan? Does she like animals? There is the petting zoo at frontierland. Did you attend the enchanted tiki room performance? There is a bit of thunder and lightning, but it's "outside" and it really is short lived. Does she like carousels? IASW?
Then there are all of the tot friendly attractions at dca.

I just wanted to add that I was also told by dining today that the POTC refurb was pushed to April. They said it was done a month ago so she wasn't sure why the website was not updated but that it is closed in April and the Blue bayou is then too and that they would not close it down twice in such a short period so my reservation is fine.

What's really weird is that they've updated the recorded phone information in the last few days and didn't make the change to POTC.

I just called the reservation line because POTC being closed would be the last straw for me. We are planning to go 4/20-4/26 (in the parks 4/21-4/25). They said Blue Bayou is set to close on 4/28 I can only assume as part of the POTC refurb.

I am seriously considering canceling this trip all together. I was looking forward to seeing the Ariel ride for the first time since the last time we went it was just about to open up. Couple that with Indy, Soaring, Space Mountain, Alice and Nemo also being closed....AND all those people who would have been in LINE waiting for those big rides being spread throughout the park. I think I need to reconsider this whole thing. I think these refurbs should be held for non-peak times. Spring break when it is a 9/10 or 10/10 day is not the time to be closing the big rides.

I agree. That is odd. And why would it be done in April? What with it being fairly busy because of spring break. Seems like such a strange time to me.

I know the website is often slow to catch up, but fwiw it still shows Jan 27- Feb 13th for the POTC rehab.

ETA: I also know it's been discussed at length, but it is not listed on the daily schedule during these dates, but there are other closures listed.

I agree that it's a large number of refurbs and quite disappointing and frustrating to plan for accordingly.

Thing is, they DO do have refurbs scheduled already during non-peak times. So do you want to add the April/May refurbs of Soarin, Space, Indy, Ariel, and Alice to these and have REALLY huge list like this down at once?

1/7/2013 01/31/14 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
1/7/2014 01/17/14 Big Thunder Ranch Petting Farm
1/7/2014 01/17/14 Haunted Mansion
1/13/2014 01/16/14 Jungle Cruise
1/6/2014 02/13/14 Fantasmic!
1/6/2014 02/13/14 Sailing Ship Columbia
1/21/2014 02/07/14 It's a Small World
1/21/2014 02/28/14 Splash Mountain
1/27/2014 02/13/14 Pirates of the Caribbean

Unfortunately they have to spread them out...

Yeah, I get it. But that is also why I always go during peak time (summer, spring break and so forth). I put up with the crowds (and in the summer way too hot weather :scared1:) so that I have all the rides at my disposal. Ugh. Just frustrated. Luckily I book our air on SWA so I can change it, can cancel our BWPPI reservations without penalty and haven't bought our passes yet. But for those who are locked in, this would suck even more!

The thing that's hard about Spring Break is that it spans such a large amount of time (mid March-end of April). Yes, it's peak time, but not summer and they have to have these rides up for summer time. Just like October has become a peak time, but it's not the Holiday time yet.

I guess I'm one who's less frustrated by having it closed and be able to plan accordingly than walk by a ride and see it down over & over again.

And with 2015 being the 60th Anniversary I wonder if refurbs are a bit heavier this year to get everything in tip top shape?

When you look at all the refurbs that Disney does over the entire year on one big giant list as is shown on this thread, I think it creates unnecessary panic as we are seeing here.

I took the list and am posting it in a slightly different way to hope to help people to see that it is not as bad as some are expressing.

Instead of looking at the giant list, let's look at any given day.

Note: The Sailing Ship Columbia is key to the Fantasmic! show. If it is under refurbishment, it makes sense that Fantasmic! goes dark until it returns.

Hopefully this helps someone somehow. That is my intent.

WHAT!? No way...
We arrive April 29th. That means Space Mountain, Little Mermaid, Pirates, Soarin... this is getting ridiculous!!!!

Thanks, Disney Dreams - it helps me a lot to see it broken down like that. We will be there for 1 day last minute quickie on 2/3. The only thing I now have my fingers crossed for is that POTC will not go down until April (I think that what's being rumored) - the DL version of that ride is one of my all time favs - I would hate to miss that one! (as will the April people I know if it's moved back)

We arrive on the 29th :( and we had plans to celebrate our 5th anniversary at Blue Bayou (it was going to be our first time!)

I am so sorry to hear this. Hopefully it gets pushed back again for you to get your dinner.

Thanks :)
Though really, I shouldn't complain. The fact that we are able to go to Disney at ALL is already much more than many families can do. I just need a new perspective!

Agreed. And they seem to be updating the interactive map with refurb info. but the POTC refurb still has not changed there either.

It WAS on the daily schedule for a short time. It showed up there on about Dec 20th, but was taken off a week or 2 later, it is still on the map though.
