Updated list of Refurbs for 2014

I think part of the problem is that when so many rides are down it makes the lines for the rides that are running that much longer.

We used to always go for spring break, and never had that many rides down. Usually it was one major ride refurb going on. It is one of the reasons I now like going in the summer. The rides aren't all up and running (BTMRR last summer), but the majority usually are.

I plan to be there the first week of March.....

I will Thank all of you now, for changing your plans and not going because of the MASSIVE closure list.... This will help with the lines I'll be in for the rides that are open.... :thumbsup2

Yes, a discount would be nice but as in the past, not going to happen.

Ride closures happen, at least they post them..... eventually....
It's nice when the list of closures isn't so long....

When we went Jan 28, 2013 for a week, the closure list was just that "MASSIVE"!!! There were listed closures when I booked the trip in August. However, as the trip approached the list of closures GREW and GREW...
By the time we arrived these were the rides we missed, due to closures.

Mark Twain Riverboat
Canoes
Tom Sawyer's Island
Main Street Train Station
BTMRR
IASW
Splash MT
Tea Cups
Fantasmic!
Grizzly River Run
Muppet Vision

Sure we missed these rides but we still had a fine time.
With 5days in the parks we still wanted more when it was time to leave.

Wow. 5 days at Disneyland?! :0 Wow! :)

Well we still plan not to visit in March, not because of the MASSIVE ride closures, because SOME of the rides we do like are closed and we would miss them. You're more than welcome to my spot in line. ;)

I didn't miss those closures actually, but those are something that was out of Disney's control, they really did have to close those down with no notice because it was the law, planned refurbs however are not the same situation at all. There should be more notice. Also, I feel that stating that we didn't know before because of lack of internet in the 80's-90's isn't a legit argument because now that there is internet and iphones, etc, we can see that Disney is actively using that technology to their advantage, i.e. advertising, emails for pin codes, magic band technology, texts for when rooms are ready, My disney experience, photopass, etc. With all this amp up by Disney to utilize technology for their advantage, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to ask that they maintain their schedules and info a little better for the sake of the people who spend so much money there. It should be a no-brainer.

All that being said, I am a Disney lifer! lol I've been going for 30 years and will always love it, and to me the ambiance is actually enough most times, but I haven't consumed enough of the "koolaid" yet to know that not everyone thinks the way a lot of us do on here. I feel for those once in a life time families who will never get to come back and people who DO really count on most rides being open to justify their trip. So this has me a bit disappointed with DLR I guess. I feel they are dropping the ball.

How much notice should you get. When you think about supplies, parts, etc you can't plan out that far in advance. Most of these are three to four months out which I do consider acceptable.

I sent an email expressing my disappointment in the refurbishment and asked if there was plans for discount tickets. I received a form letter stating there was no plan for discounts.

The thought that crosses my mind is that really us Die hard disney lovers who take the time to post here and plan for our vacation are the minority. Also I've seen it posted that as much as 80% of Disneyland is local. Add the locals with the people who just show up and I'm willing to bet 1% are the people who care what rides are listed as closed.

I do think for me looking to see what is closed is nice to know but even if I could only see one attraction I'd still have fun at Disney!

I think people also need to recognize that Spring break time this year is LONG...With Easter coming so late this year, there is about 5-6 weeks that is considered "Spring Break" for DL. That's more close to the amount of time for HalloweenTime and Christmas time!

I was planning a trip with my mom who hasn't been to Disneyland in over 10 yrs - we really want to see everything! This absolutely Is going to change our plans - no way are we going now. Seems like we may have to push it out 6 months, at least! I just hate to give her the bad news........ :-(

Hi Everyone. I was just checking the Disneyland website tonight (my obsession :lovestruc )and found some changes to the refurb schedule.

So I thought I would share (good news for some, bad news for others...)but this just goes to prove you never, ever know until the day you go, things change!! I did not go in order of dates but going around the parks after you enter right to left...

DISNEYLAND:
Railroad:Feb.24-March 7
Space Mountain: March 3-May 22
Nemo Submarines: January 6-Sept.26
Alice in Wonderland: Feb.3-June 5
It's a small world: Jan 21-Feb 7
Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo: Jan 7-Jan 17
Big Thunder Ranch Railroad: now-Jan 31
Sailing Ship Columbia: Jan 6- Feb 13 (?)
Pirates Lair: Jan 21-Feb 28
Splash Mountain: Jan 21-Feb 28
Haunted Mansion: Jan 7-Jan 17
Pirates of the Caribbean: January 27-Feb 13
Indiana Jones: march 3-April 25
Jungle Cruise: Jan 13-Jan 16

CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE:
Soarin Over California: Feb 18-June 5
Redwood Creek Challenge: Jan 6-Feb 27
Mickeys Fun Wheel: Feb 3- Feb 6
Heimlichs Chew Chew train: March 3- march 6

Like I said, this is just that the DL website says as of this evening (Dec 21).

It's also important just to note that some of these things are merely operational closures and should be 100% expected every year.

It's a small world: Jan 21-Feb 7
Haunted Mansion: Jan 7-Jan 17
Jungle Cruise: Jan 13-Jan 16
These three are down during the listed times to remove their holiday overlays. Every year. (Yes, first time for jungle Cruise.)

Splash Mountain: Jan 21-Feb 28
Pirates of the Caribbean: January 27-Feb 13
Space Mountain: March 3-May 22
Indiana Jones: march 3-April 25
Yes, these are four popular attractions, but they are not all down at the same time. Only two of the four are down at any given times. So, don't look at the long list and think, "All four?!?!?!". Well, no. Not at the same time. Over four months, yes. At any given time, no.

Just trying to help view it in pieces, not as one big clump,

The only way to see everything is to go during peak season, and even then there is no guarantee. I can see someone postponing if Space and Indiana Jones are their all time favorite rides, but for someone coming after a 10 year hiatus, this list is really no big deal. There is so much to see and do, don't let a couple of closed attractions spoil your plans.

I'm curious about the Space Mountain closure - I can't find it listed on any other site or search I've done. Does anyone know any confirmation on this?

My first trip to WDW was in 2009 - I was so excited to go! It was a lifelong dream.... Only after booking our trip did I realize Space Mountain would be closed during our visit. It really was a big let down. DL is still on my bucket list, and I was exploring the possibility of going in May. The Soarin' closure may be a deal breaker for me - but if Space Mountain is down, that will seal the deal that I will wait. Did that with WDW and don't want the same memory with DL. DL will likely be a once or possibly twice in a lifetime experience as WDW is more easily accessible.

Agreed, but then why not discount multi day tickets for non passholders? Typically discount tickets were available for the first portion of the new year.

This, look at the dates. People have also been crying about Splash's animitronics not working, so why not knock it down during slow season. Pirates my guess is due to the construction being done on the exit of the ride, they need the ride shut down to finish it, again during the real only slow season for the park makes sense.

Space Mountain I suspect is probably due to the OSHA shutdown last year to finish that off. The exterior has been looking pretty dirty since cleaners have not been able to work on it when I was at the parks a couple weeks ago. Indy sadly has been up and down like a yo yo since it's last major refurb, probably needs more work. Would rather it be down another 6 weeks and be good to go then play the is it or is it not up game.

Really? I've been a Disney fan all my life and been going constantly the last 4 years and never seen a discounted ticket during the slow season except for US Military which is year round.

Wow.....that's a lot of referbs. Looks like a couple are just to get rid of Christmas set ups. Glad I don't have any plans of going in 2014.....yet.

I believe that reference is in regards to the special promotion that normally is offered from Jan until April or May. For example, everyone pays the childs price promotion that had been offered in the past.
I have not looked as of late to see what might be in the offering next year on the Disney website.

I am going in early April no matter what so "que sera sera". However, I don't understand why Space and Indy would only be listed as closed on the Disneyland attraction map. Is it common to do this and then add them later to the official refurb list? Who knows. I figure the crystal ball will be clear up as my dates approach.

Oh yeah... I remember that promo. They also had the "2fer" deal.

True, only 2 of the big 4 you list are closed at the same time, but you need to include Alice, Nemo, and Soaring during the time frame for all 4. These are also pretty popular attractions for many people.

That said, my plane tickets are purchased so there is not an option to make a date change. I will be taking a 7 year old grand-daughter for her first, and probably only, trip ever to DL. I am sure we will still have a very magical time.

I think the OP was trying to be helpful and qualified how she came up with this list. I think her method was creative but not official and may turn out to be inaccurate in some cases.

I would caution everyone here to wait until something more official comes out before changing trip dates or canceling trips or just basically freaking out.

100% agree! Now that I have worked through my many emotional stages, I am just glad to be going. Rather be at Disney for spring break instead of sitting at home any day.
