Starting on May 16th only AKV points can be used to book at AKV. From June 6th on, any DVC points can be used to book AKV, subject to the 7-month window of course.

If a nonmember purchases a contract at AKV prior to September they can begin making reservations as of May 16th for dates of stay in September or later, using their AKV points.

Which, to me, means it behooves anyone looking to buy and book at AKV for the later half of '07 and the first bit of '08, to do so early in the process (closing before May 16th). Because owners are only getting about 21 days exclusivity on Sept 1 - Jan 6th-ish.

After that date, the 11/7 rule will actually have an effect.

Coincidentally....our first trip is likely going to be Jan 5th- Jan 11th...provided they have points to sell us when the points go on sale to the public, in use year useable for that trip.

wow! i just bit the hook and i am really excited. 50+50+50=150 pts. i can not wait to walk thru the doors for the first time, and i don't even know what the opening date is supposed to be. guess i have to do a little research.

I have it all straight now, but the CM last night said we couldn't even do this. He was wrong! That is why I was asking about this, as I knew it couldn't be true...which it isn't. He said that even on May 16th, we could book AKV, but not with AKV points, as we couldn't even start to book with them until after the building actually opened.

I wonder how many folks buying AKV points now for use this winter know that they won't be able to actually reserve those winter AKV trips with their newly acquired AKV points when the priority reservation period opens in May; so if they have used up all their points in the other contracts they're stuck with borrowing to take advantage of the early booking period?

No for winter vacations they will have AKV points. That is what we use. If I want to go over christmas. I can book it on May 16th.

I'm sorry if I've missed this addressed in the hundreds of posts on AKV right now -- I keep reading folks saying AKV owners get 50 years of points. But since the lease expires January 2057, everyone who buys in starting this year will only get 49 years worth, right?

Sorry for the confusion. I called MS last night, to see if I bought AKV pts this month, could I start using them right away....for other resorts. We are going Oct. 30-Nov. 5th and I want to stay at AKV....BUT I don't want to miss out on staying at Beach Club, if I can't get into AKV for that trip.

I have to start booking that on March 31st, but then want to convert that ressie to AKV on May 16th. If that makes sense. I didn't want to sit around waiting until May 16th, hoping for AKV and not be able to get it....and thus I have missed my chance for Beach Club..my second choice.

That CM told me that we can't use those points at all, for any resort, even AKV, until after September 1st. I even said to him, but on May 16th and June 6th you start taking reservations for AKV. He said you can't use the AKV points though.

I knew he couldn't be right about that! And he wasn't. We can start booking with them at all other resorts now (7 month window today is Sep. 1st check in), but not for AKV until May 16th.

Yes we get 2007 points but just can't use them until after september first for AKV but I think we can use them at other resorts, someone correct me if I am wrong. It doesn't matter to me because we already have this years vacations booked.

Yes I got all of the incentives. The key was I ordered all 5 50-pointers at the same time, same contract titling. My guide, the great Kelly Jo did the rest!

Tony, I have a sneaking suspicion I was right behind you in line for points at AKV. My guide said there was one other member that qualified as a founder ahead of me.

Anyway, I bought a 200 pointer, and may do another 100. I considered breaking that up into smaller contracts, but felt the added closing costs during resale would make the price less attractive.
Not sure of the closing costs, but couldn't that add $10/pt to a small contract?

Now, for the real question...
Where can I get that "AKV Founder" signature?

We just decided on 100 pts (well, I decided, DH just went along to humor me - he is so awesome ) , but our guide is away next week so I'll have to wait and try to get my questions answered here. I'm also confused about which points I can use where for this fall. If I can ONLY use my AKV points for an AKV res for Oct, then I would have to buy at least enough points to cover the whole ressie? I can't use my other 2007 points to finish out the ressie even though it would be within 7 mos? OK, now that I've typed it out I think I get what they are trying to do - trying to give AKV owners the advantage in May so that all other DVC members can't book the limited # of AKV rooms that will be available for this fall, right?
I was sooooo excited last June when all the CMs were telling us the unconfirmed rumors about AKV - I never dreamed we'd be buying points already!!!
One more question - does anyone know for sure that there will be 2 BR units built in AKL for AKV that are not concierge - we need a 2 BR for Oct - but don't want CL.

bjakmom, we are going to need 112 pts for the Studio (CL) we hope to book. Because of this, I am adding on 56 pts (can I add that odd number?). On March 31st, I will be booking our Oct/Nov stay with the AKV pts, for Beach Club. On May 16th, I will call to convert that ressie to AKV (CL). I am willing to do Savannah or Standard views as well though...probably not Value though. We will just keep our Beach Club ressie if that is all we can get. So, I am adding on the pts I will need to cover my "hopeful" stay! I would use 07 and borrow 08 pts for this trip.

On May 16th, we can start booking stays at AKV with AKV points for stays AFTER Sept.1. We cannot use AKV points to stay at any other DVC resort BEFORE Sept.1, when AKV is scheduled to open.

So, yes, winter vacations can be booked with 2007 AKV points. We are planning on staying there in January. The 11 month booking on May 16 will be any vacations up though April 16, 08.

No, I don't believe we can do anything with AKV points until May 16th. I could be wrong, but I really think my guide would of told me if we could start booking immediately. Instead she emphasized the change in the booking date. It changed from April 4th to May 16th.

Starting on June 6th, anyone can book AKV for September or later, using points from any resort, subject to the 7-month window.

Since you don't own at AKV, you will have to wait until June 6th to book, using your SSR or BCV pts.

I just wonder, because my guide really got into details about the change from the original booking (April 4th) to May 16th. I am sure she would of said something like, "But that date is just for stays at AKV, you can call immediately for stays at other DVC resorts using your 7 month window."

I am not saying you are wrong, I may be worng. You may have gotten some wrong info.
