I stopped by our Office Depot after work to get two Disney gift cards, one on each Chase card I have with the 10% offer. They would only let me buy one, is that normal? Said it was company policy that if you buy multiple gift cards it has to be one one transaction. So I have to go back to get the second one later.

Next time tell them to ring it up as separate transactions or buy the first one and then get back in line for the second one.

Who knows if it really is company policy? At some stores the store manager will tell their employees that something is corporate policy when it is not. I along with others here have also had cashiers tell me something is not going to work when we know it will. I have had a couple Target cashiers tell me that I won't get the 5% off of DIS GC's using the Red Card and I tell them to ring it up anyway and they were surprised it worked. I told them it won't work on Target and Visa type GC's but will work on all others. I have also had some cashiers tell me right before they ring it up that I'm smart using the Red Card to get the discount.

I have made multiple purchases of Disney gift cards at my Office Depot to use the 10% offer on my credit cards. I just told the cashier that I was making two separate purchases.

Yep, exactly what I was asking to do, two separate transactions on two different cards and he wouldn’t do it. Very strange to me.

Yep, maybe I got an overzealous cashier. Even ‘called to the back’ and then said no. Seems silly to me when I could just come back later or the next day. At first I thought he misunderstood and thought I was asking to split the payment on two cards but no, said I couldn’t make two separate purchases either, company policy.

Probably just an employee that didn’t want to do multiple transactions. I bought three yesterday with three different cards.

It varies. Some employees at my local store don't care, others do. Don't argue, it's not worth it, just go back some other time.

It happens. I once had a manager tell me it's company policy for fraud prevention--they can only do one transaction. So I went back to the isles and waited until a different cashier was available (not the manager) and the cashier did it with no problem

So this is probably related to the Indian scam centers defrauding old people by getting thousands of dollars in gift cards. It kind of makes sense....except if you can reasonably articulate why you are purchasing them and it makes no sense to restrict it.

Yep, this was a store just making up their own policy. As other said, it is not worth fighting with them, just come back another time (as annoying as that is).

I once went into OD (before they closed down every one of their stores in the state of NJ) to partake of their deal to buy $300 in visa gift cards and get $15 off (they run this deal every once in a while) and I brought up 2 $200 visa gift cards to buy and the cashier told me it is a limit of 1 per customer. I said but there is a sale when you buy $300 of visa gift cards, how can I get $300 if you are only letting me buy 1? He called over a manager who tried to also tell me limit of 1 and I showed him the sign that said $15 off of $300 and asked him how do I get $300 in visa gift cards if you are limited to buying 1 gift card? He didn't say anything for a few seconds and finally told the cashier, all right, I'll allow it.
