This will be my first Half Marathon!! DH will go with me, My best friend from California, her DH and my Dad.

We will probably get a big house offsite as my Mom and my 3 kids will be joining us. The promise of a week at Disney is helping me get lots of time on the road and in the gym while they stay home!!!

Thanks for all the good info!!!

Woo hoo!! Those are awsome stats! Thansk for keeping the list Judy!!

Honeibee, Thanks for keeping up-to-date on this list. I can now say that I will be staying at OKY for marathon weekend. All booked, have air taken care of and now just need to continue training.

Hey Goofy, that's Old Key West you'll be at? Thanks for the update. I better get on the ball, you already have air! I haven't even thought about it yet!

Jules here! My boyfriend and I will be doing the half (my first ever)! Planning to run the whole way but we'll see what happens. I think that we're staying at the Contemporary since we wanted monorail access for that early start. Happy training to all!

Just wanted to confirm that we are indeed staying at the Wilderness Lodge. DH put the downpayment on it while I was gone last week. We wanted Monorail, but the boat will do just fine for DH and the girls to catch a glimpse of my stumbling my way through MK!!!!

I am now officially signed up to do the half marathon. I will most likely be trying to walk the 13.1 miles. We'll see how the next 199 days of training go - maybe I'll be able to walk/run. I am a beginner - this will be my first race.

I will be running the full. I have started training, this will be my first marathon unless I run the Vegas marathon in December. Staying at OKW with my DH 1/5-1/10. I am really excited! DH printed the course map and has already posted it on the fridge.

I'm running the marathon and bringing wife Patty, Dson 3, and twin Ddaughters age 2 on race day! This is the girls 1st Disney trip. We're staying "off-campus."

Welcome all the newcomers! Make sure you check out the weekly training thread for advise and encouragement. This is a good group of people.

RedSonya, Vegas is extremely close to the Disney marathon. I think they are only about 4-5 weeks apart. Most experts recommend that you spend either 1 day per mile or 1 day per km (depending on who you ask) as recovery after a marathon before your next race or long run. Since you have not run a marathon before, you do not know how it will affect you, and how quickly you will recover. Please keep this in mind when you decide if you are going to do 2 marathons so close together. I speak from experience, as I did 3 marathons in 6 months from the end of last October to this April. Personally, I decided NOT to do the Vegas marathon this year because I did not think that I could fully recover from Vegas before Disney. Ultimately, you know yourself and your abilities more than I do, so the decision is entirely yours. If you decide to do Vegas and then Disney, make sure you go slow and take steps to prevent injury. Check Hal Higdon's website for info on running multiple marathons. Good luck!

Paul

Thanks so much for the great advice Paul. I am really a novice, and fairly old to be joining the running scene so I'm sure I will need a long recovery time. I have been trying to get lots of info from all sources to aid my running. I think I will avoid the Vegas run and instead try some 10k and halves this summer and early fall.

For all the nerw posters: Welcome!!!! Make sure you find your way to the Running/Walking Team weekly threads! You'll find a lot of support (and fun too) there!

RedSonya - I second Paul's advice. See how you feel after a marathon before trying to do two so close. Look forward to runnign with you in January!!!!

Hey there everyone! :wave2:

My name is Teresa and I'm from Brooklyn, NY. I'm registered for the Goofy and plan on running it fully! :woohoo:

I'm a member of New York Road Runners and the ING New York City Marathon 2006 will be my first marathon ever :yay: , so the WDW Marathon will be my 2nd marathon ever. I think that I'm probably pretty nutty for doing this to myself, but ya know what...you only live once and I'm going to challenge my body to the max!

I booked a room at Boardwalk Inn. Though I might end up canceling that reservation and hopping to another resort (depending on my cast member discount! Oh yeah, I'm a dreaded CM!).

This past May was actually my very first time at WDW! It took 25 years, but it was well worth the wait! I went with my boyfriend (who's Jrawksteady on this board!) and had an AMAZING time! Since I work for the company, I thought that I might not like it as much. Well, I was WRONG, because I want to go back there even worse!!!

We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which I completely fell in love with. I cried the last day because I made friends with the giraffes outside of my balcony! I wanted to stay there for the marathon weekend, however I was afraid because it's so far away. Did any of you guys stay there in previous years during the marathon by any chance?

Well, can't wait until January! I want my packet to arrive NOW!!!!!! :dancer:

Could you add us to the list? Chuck (DH) and I wiil be doing the half, planning to run the whole way. Not sure where we'll be staying yet. This will be the first event for both of us, unless we do a local 5k or 10k this fall.

Well this is my first post over here in the WISH forums, and what better way to start off then saying I'm registered for the Marathon, and my wife the half for 2007. We're both active duty military stationed up here at Hurlburt Field in the panhandle, and hoping that we're not somewhere far away come January so we can complete our individual races, which both will be firsts for us. She's completed no more than a 5k race previously (although several) and I did a half this last January before falling back out of shape. We've also both got about 30 pounds to lose to get back to our ideal weight, so we'll see how that progress goes as well. Add us on!

thndrmatt SoG FULL running first marathon
mrstropicana SoG HALF running first half

But anyway, I just wanted to say :wave2:
