Unvaxxed children under 12?

I think I recall reading a thread that said after a certain date, (November maybe?) DCL will allow unvaxxed children under 12 to sail? I am considering taking my niece's 7 year old with us who isn't vaxxed. I can't seem to find that discussion and I didn't really take note of it at the time because our children are grown and it didn't pertain to our situation until today. I do recall reading that unvaxxed children will need to keep a mask on while in the clubs.

I looked on DCL's Before You Go section and it only mentions current rules, not what's coming. He is currently recovering from covid but my next week off in mid-Decmeber would be after his 90 day recovery window. I am considering trying to change my week off to November.

Can anyone point me to that discussion?
TIA

Thank you. I looked at that page you provided and didn't see it mentioned but when I scrolled down to the vaccine section, it makes it clear.

COVID-19 Vaccination

Learn about the requirements for COVID-19 vaccination at the time of sailing.
COVID-19 Vaccination
For sailings departing the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, Disney Cruise Line requires Guests ages 12 and older to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of sailing, as defined by the CDC. In consideration of CDC guidance, Disney Cruise Line highly recommends that Guests ages 11 and younger be fully vaccinated before sailing.
In consideration of guidance from the CDC and the World Health Organization, Disney Cruise Line accepts the following vaccine types for Guests ages 5 and older: Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Novavax, Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (VeroCell), Sinovac-CoronaVac and Covavaxin (Bharat Biotech).
For Guests ages 5 and older, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines fully vaccinated as 14 days after receiving one of the following:

  • A single dose of an accepted 1-dose vaccine
  • The second dose of an accepted 2-dose vaccine
  • The full series of an active (not placebo) COVID-19 vaccine in the US-based AstraZeneca or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine trials
  • The second dose of any “mix and match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines (administered at least 17 days apart)
  • Disney Cruise Line accepts Pfizer and Moderna for Guests ages 4 and younger; Sinopharm (BBIBP-CorV, VeroCell) for Guests ages 3 through 4 years of age; and Sinovac (CoronaVac) for Guests ages 6 months through 3 years.

For Guests ages 4 and younger, the CDC defines fully vaccinated as 14 days after receiving one of the following:
    • 3 doses of Pfizer: the second dose administered 21 days after the first; and the third dose administered 56 days after the second.
    • 2 doses of Moderna: the second dose administered one month after the first.
    • 2 doses of Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (VeroCell): the second dose administered 21 to 28 days after the first.
    • 2 doses of Sinovac-CoronaVac: the second dose administered 14 to 28 days after the first.

As of 9/23/2022 on the Wonder, Dream, Fantasy and Wish only 12+ will be required to be vaccinated. Unvaxxed will still need to test 1-3 days prior to embarkation.

The Magic will shift to these rules in November (11/7/2022).

Can anyone confirm the statement of unvaccinated children needing to wear masks in the clubs? I don't remember seeing this anywhere but it seems information is also spread out over multiple sources.

They do not need to wear a mask in the clubs

I do recall reading a thread where a mom had submitted her 4 year old's proof of vaccination but being that vaccinating that age group is so new, DCL/Safe Passage wasn't yet recognizing that age group as being able to be vaccinated and it wouldn't accept the proof. This mom was very upset that her child would be treated as unvaxxed and would then need to stay masked in the kids club. One of the reasons she rushed to get him/her vaccinated before the cruise was so that masks in the club would not be needed. Maybe her child had issues with keeping a mask on as I would imagine many young children do.
Honestly, I haven't followed the DCL rules for small children at all since the restart because my kids are adults but suddenly now I'm interested and trying to read all the parts that I barely skimmed over in the past. I have a lot going on my life right now and can't really spend the time to do a lot of searching. It really should be a sticky but I guess with things changing all the time, it's probably best to just have people read directly from DCL site.

We sailed on the Wish a couple of weeks ago and my unvaccinated 5 year old had to wear a mask in the kids club at all times. The rest of the time she was mask free. Go figure!

At this time (which could change tomorrow or next week or next month!) it doesn't appear that masks are required for unvaccinated kids, just strongly recommended.

The Know Before You Go/Health & Wellness section says this:
Face Coverings
Face coverings are optional for most Guests throughout our ships. We strongly recommend unvaccinated guests wear a face covering in all indoor locations. In the US, face coverings are optional on motorcoach transportation and in the Disney Cruise Line Terminal but may be required in ports of call and cruise terminals outside of the US, based on local government requirements.

The “Top Things You Need to Know” says basically the same:

In the US, face coverings are optional on motorcoach transportation and in the Disney Cruise Line Terminal but may be required in ports of call and cruise terminals outside of the US based on local government requirements.

The On the Ship section states this:
Face Coverings
Face coverings are not required for Guests outdoors while on board the ship and at designated locations on our private island, Disney Castaway Cay. Face coverings are optional in most indoor locations throughout the ship. We continue to strongly recommend unvaccinated guests wear a face covering in all indoor locations. Face coverings are required on motorcoach transportation and in the Disney Cruise Line Terminal and may be required in ports of call based on local government requirements.

And further down that same page in the section specific to the Youth Activities:

Interesting that the DCL website states that face coverings are required on the motor coach and inside the terminal. We sailed from Port Canaveral just a couple of weeks ago and didn’t need face masks anywhere except for my daughter in the kids club 🤷🏼‍♀️

DCL's website actually has conflicting info. One place says optional on motorcoach and terminal, another says required. I think they can't even keep up with their own changes. The website notes Aug. 29th as the latest change, so I don't know if that includes facemasks in the kids clubs, because I can't find anywhere that it says required anymore (and I know it used to say required for unvaxxed).

If they don’t know the rules how are we all meant to know 😂

Maybe this was one of the changed rules that went into effect on Sept 2.
It is crazy trying to keep up with it all and then different ships have different rules which I understand has to be because of Bermuda. It's frustrating for sure.

Bermuda dropped the vaccine requirements for all ages but still requires testing. It's crazy confusing!
The easiest thing would be for DCL to drop the vax requirements for all ages like every other cruise line has done (including Silver Seas which caters to an older crowd.)

I honestly think at this point they're the most restrictive for no other reason than they have an overwhelmed booking system, and it can't handle a huge influx of calls.

They will drop, I bet sooner than later. I also dont expect to see testing around for much longer either. Another couple months tops.
