I had DH make a list of what he needs for his elk hunting trip. Here is his entire list. Now remember, this is for 2 weeks of camping:

It's really hot here...91 degrees! Where are all the hyenas? Our thread has been so empty lately.

It was 75 here yesterday, but today is rainy. However, the next week looks nice! Well I have noticed that after a DL trip, the thread gets a little slow for 2-3 weeks. I think everyone is trying to get caught up on things, catch up on sleep, etc...

What does elk taste like? One time my bf and I were in Walmart and they were selling elk jerky. We were scared to try it but they only sold it that one time. Never seen it since....they only carry slim jims and that jack's brand beef jerky.

Elk doesn't really taste like deer (venison). It tastes very similar to beef. The biggest difference between elk & beef is that elk is extremely lean, almost no fat at all. Elk are huge, about the size of a cow and they tend to graze more and be slower, not run around as much as small deer.

When we have our elk meat cut & wrapped I have them add beef tallow/fat to the hamburger. Otherwise it just falls apart in the pan because it has no fat in it. Because it has little fat it tends to be better if cooked with moist heat. It is an excellent food to eat if you want to eat beef, but don't want the fat.

I'm not a real big fan of deer, but I do like elk meat. Not to mention that it's great to have a freezer full of free meat!

Good Afternoon Hyenas!

I guess the fires in SD are contained. My sister returned to work today and the fires nearby where I live are contained as well. I haven't smelled the ashes or anything since yesterday. No more falling ashes and the wind has calmed down drastically. We have nice clear blue skies again, but the only downside is that it's 91 degrees out!

My little sister can't go to her swimming practices due to the filtration in the swimming pools (due to the ashes from the fires).

Very busy at work today. I hope I don't stay late but I have a feeling I'll have to.

UUUmmmmmm NO ITs NOT! The biggest one is estimated at 10 percent contained , the Camp Pendleton one is about 15 percent contained, they are sending six c-130 firefighting aircraft to attack some of the fires. San Diego county has ten fires burning, they are continuing to evacuate people. The south county fires are continuing to burn, and they are evacuating some smaller towns!

It is most very definately not over.

Thats why I went into the Navy at 17! By the time my 21st birthday came around, It was no big deal! (Back then you could drink on base over the age of 18, but no one EVER checked I.D.)
