Ugh... its his whole side of the family, and I have no clue how dh turned out so normal!!! They are all crazy!!! We went to lunch after words, and dh said "Now you know why I am not close to them!" No kidding!!! They are freaks!!! :sad2: What is wrong with people????

:rotfl2: :rotfl: We always joke that DH is adopted - his family is actually very cool and I like them better then my own - but they are not normal people - I don't know how he ended up somewhat normal!!!

:lmao: :lmao: That would make so much sense with my dh... He is so big, and husky, and his whole family is short and scrawny. Its very odd!! Even i am taller then his dad, and all his brothers!:lmao: They truly are insane people though!

They had vending machines in the 70's???

Yes, but they used to dispense soda pop in glass bottles! Not only that, you had to take the cap off by sticking it on a metal thing on the side. AND, NOW GET THIS!!!! The glass bottles were worth a nickel. If as a kid you wanted a candy bar at the store, you had to go looking for pop bottles to take back to the store and earn money. Yes, the soda pop companies actually washed out the old bottles and re-used them! Of course they had to quit doing that, otherwise recycling would have come into fashion long before it actually did!:lmao:

Kids actually loved going on long road trips in the car, because it meant you got to stop at a gas station (the only place they had vending machines with candy in them!).

Ahh...the good ol' days!:lmao:

Ok guys - DH just called - he is out of ham, cheddar and whip cream - so I have to run to another store for him!!!

Staley- I'm sorry your visit didn't go well. I don't blame you for being upset and you had every right to be. That's really uncool how your DH's bro cursed like a sailor in front of your kids. :sad2:

Hi everyone! Yeah! I remember looking for bottles, and then buying candy with the money. It was fun!!!
See you youngsters......................you missed out on all of the fun.
Alison, are you old enough to remember waiting to see the Wizard of Oz, and Cinderella that came on only ONCE a year on TV?????????????
And how popular Mary Poppins was, and I only got to see it once???? Until it came out again, 10 years later. But by that time, it didn't mean as much to me. Actually, you probably aren't old enough to remember that.
Anyways................................

:rotfl2:

Sam, our vending machines used to take Canadian coins, but then in the late '70s when the exchange rate was so vastly different, vending companies were losing their shirts because people would drop the useless Canadian coins into the machines. So the vending machine companies engineered the newer machines so they wouldn't accept the Canadian coins.

Now don't you love it when you drop in US coins and they get rejected? Some must weigh differently or something, it just annoys me no end if that's the only coin I have and it won't work!

 Canadian coins are not useless? Regardless of the exchange rate - you should have saved those nickels girls you could have converted to DL dollars by now and hardly noticed a difference in the exchange rate. Serves you all right!!

SHAWNA!! Sorry I missed you, I was chatting with dh, he's in Norway and I miss him. Guess I'll have to catch you another time.

goodnight everyone.

Bowling alleys also had them. I remember a cigarette vending machine, right out in the open where any kid could get a pack of smokes... In fact, I remember people giving their kid money to go get them a pack. :rotfl:

No offense intended, Christina. :goodvibes

They were 'useless' because no one would take Canadian money at the time. The only thing you could do was collect them and take 'em to the bank, and get something like 40 cents to a US dollar. The exchange rate was really uneven then, apparently up to that point they were fairly close and everyone accepted CAN the same as US money.

When I was 3 years old my dad worked for RCA. He had the "old school" laser disk players. The movies were like giant versions of floppy disks! :lmao: I used to watch Mary Poppins all the time and my older sister and I used to pretend that we were having a tea party on the ceiling too! :rotfl2:

ham, cheddar and whipped cream....that's a weird combo! ;) Maybe he wants to eat a monte cristo sandwich with whipped cream on top! :teeth:

Ds3 just woke and wants to sit in my lap. Which doesn't work real well at the desk, so I'll take him downstairs and see if he'll let me get on the laptop...
BRB!

Well I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't

that's how the exchange rate is currently, now's the time for Canadians to go to Disneyland because the exchange rate is good for us, we don't lose any money. Woot. :woohoo:

Oh neat! Not a great idea but neat. The legal smoking age here is 16. I saw a child smoking the other day, it was shocking to see but then again that's the age they start, around 11 I guess.

Girls, come back. Please don't make me try to go to sleep again. I got up and noticed a spider heading towards my room so I squished him. What if I hadn't got up? Where would he have gone in my room? Do you think he would have joined me in bed? And bit me in my sleep?
