I know no one is up at this god awful hour.. but I had to share..
My hubby is probably thinking I am an utter fool, overly cautious but I was so scared!
Sleeping and woke up to sound of our bathroom cupboard go bang, then I hear some moanng and garbled yelling.. then bang bang bang...
Are you ok honey? Hello??
Push the door open and find DH laying on the floor.. not "himself" in the least! He was drooling, kicking , banging his head in the corner formed by the closed door and the wall, and yelling/moaning.
I couldn't wake him up.
Washed his face with cold water, yelled at him, had a little hysterical fit " God D it ! You didn't take me all the way to California to act like this!" "Wake up!!!"
I put a pillow to protect his head , then he started snoring and breathing heavy (with a mouthful of saliva as well).
Little break in the action here...
Hubby takes Ambien (sleep med) for chronic insomnia, he has had moments when seems to be fully functioning.. carries on a whole conversation with me (some times it makes no sense), makes a snack (sometimes weird combinations).. all while actually asleep.
He had "eloped" one time when we were on the trip to CA. I didn't know he took his meds. He said he was going to the car for ear phones (car was right outside the door), came back several minutes later with a can of pop, and no ear phones.
Woke up the next day , he asks "where did the pop come from?".. huh? you bought it last night. He freaked and verified how long he was gone.. is the car still there?

Thank goodness, he wasn't gone long enough to do anything too weird.
Back to the events of my morning:
I didn't want him to choke on saliva, waked him up a bit more, trying to get him on his side.
I couldn't move his butt, he's close to 200 pounds.
He woke up a bit, reached for me to help him sit up. He sat up a bit and then was wobbly enough that I got scared he would fall in the kitty litter box
Helped him rearrange himself and put pillows to protect him and wedge him on his side on the floor.
Meanwhile.. he's still "not himself", vacant stare of a crazy person is the first thought that popped in my head.

I cried some more, yelled at him some more.. Noticed he had scrapes on his head.
Decided enough was enough .
Got dressed while he fell asleep snoring in the bathroom doorway. (More normal sleep at this point) Collected his meds, turned on all the lights. Found my cell and called for an ambulance.
FYI.. We haven't changed our phones to California numbers yet. We put it off as my MIL phone has been disconnnected and hope that she will call our cell to tell us what the heck is happening.
The 911 operator in MN had someone look up fire services in Moval and then connected me thru.
Go back and check on hubby, he's sleeping. I try to wake him again. He opens his eyes, but they are doing the REM thing.
He reaches up a hand to me, seems a little more aware. I tell him what happened and that I called an ambulance. But he slides back into unawareness again.
I tell the boys that Dad has had a reaction to his meds, ambulance is coming.
They scurry out of bed and follow me into the bedroom. At this point, I go to talk to hubby again.. he wakes up. He's himself again.
He says .."Hi dear, what's wrong?"
He gets up and hugs me as I start bawling again. I tell him what happened," I couldn't wake you!"
He tells me he hadn't slept the night before and had trouble sleeping last night.
I tell him again.. an ambulance is coming! He's all perplexed that I actually called for an ambulance.
He gets dressed.
Poke my head out the door, where the heck is the ambulance? It had been over 10 minutes since I called. Told hubby "if you were having a heart attack you would be dead by now".
I can hear the rig (no siren, just motor sounds), but it sounds far off. Then I see one of the EMTs hunting aorund trying to find the apartment.
I wave at him, tell him that hubby woke up and he's seems fine now.
They check him all over. BP is high, but he's been without one of his meds for two days .. I'm suprised.. I thought he only had missed one dose.
He tells the EMT since he couldn't fall asleep last night, he had taken ANOTHER dose of Ambien an hour after his first dose, .

I look at him, scold him "no wonder why!"
They decided to bring him in to hospital "just to make sure it wasn't anything else".
Find out from one of the EMTs that our gate didn't work, the emergency key panel was not functioning. Explains why it took over 10 minutes for them to reach us.
yeah, hubby's at the hospital.. I feel like a fool.. but dang it I was so freaked that something "came loose" inside his head. When J was little we both worked at a nursing home, he reminded me of some of the patients we had on the dementia unit.
