DBF steals balls of cookie dough off the tray before I get a chance to stick it in the oven.

I know how to put a stop to that. Just remind them that it contains portions of uncooked eggs that were recently deposited from a chicken's butt in it!:scared1::thumbsup2

So what do kids do now that they can't try to call BR-549 for fun? Think of all the fun things in life that have disappeared. You can't make prank phone calls to the grocery store anymore to ask if they have Prince Albert in a can, Caller ID gives you away! You can't pick up soda pop bottles to exchange for candy bars and comic books. Nobody fishes in a creek anymore with a stick, yarn, a bent nail & bologna for bait! I miss the good ol days!

We tried watching Pan's Labrynth. Wasn't in the right mood at the time, we got all confused and stopped the movie.

It will be on cable eventually for another try.

At the eye doctor this morning the lady came out and called ??? and our last name, so DS & I got up and so did another mother and her DD. Their last name was the same as ours! Her first name sounded similar to DS's also. Was kind of funny! Also at WDW some guy started yelling my name, come to find out he was yelling at his DD with the same first name. My sister and I were looking all around, it was kind of weird!

Aluminum cans, glass and CRV plastic....in CA.... we watched two teenagers bring in a cart full to get some cash. :thumbsup2

Kids don't play outside anymore.

I would be gone all day long, home in time for dinner.. back out again until night fall. Not an option these days, unless ya live in the backwoods some where.

You poor deprived soul.

Mind you I didn't do all those things.. but we did go fishing a lot with bread balls as bait.

And used all our pennies to buy a candy bar, the cheapest biggest ones we could find. Charleston Chews!! :thumbsup2

I read that some cities have done away with calling time and weather .

People have cell phones, internet and TV now for that info.

I listened to story hour on the phone. That was cool, new story every week!

Nope, but I know all about the depression, it affected me deeply. My grandfather lived through it -- it's the reason I keep a huge pantry. My goal is to have 2 years worth of food in case something ever happens.:thumbsup2

Here's a real sad story my grandpa told me. His father worked for the railroad, so they always had food. They were one of the lucky ones. There was at least a pot of beans, cornbread, collard greens, etc... Nothing fancy, but something to fill your belly. My great grandmother used to keep the leftovers on the back of the cookstove (biscuits, etc.) and if someone was hungry during the day they grabbed a snack.

She looked out the window one day and seen the little neighbor boy & his sister in their backyard. She knew their father didn't have work and things were hard. So she brought the boy & girl out each a leftover biscuit with some jam on it. The father seen it through the window and he came and chased the little boy around the house, finally caught up with him and took the biscuit away from him and ate it like a starving dog, then he just sat there crying. My great grandmother started sending all the extra food & leftovers she could spare over to them so they wouldn't starve.

My grandfather used to tell me this story all the time and always told me I should be prepared for another depression and I should always have a large pantry (which I do!). I can remember going to my great grandmother's house in Galveston, Texas when I was about 12 years old. It was the same house and I asked her about the story, she said it was true and her and I sat outside on the porch looking at that very yard & house where it happened and cried.

Didn't mean to turn our conversation into something depressing about the depression. But it's something that has really influenced my life and stuck with me since I was a kid.
