Nope, but I know all about the depression, it affected me deeply. My grandfather lived through it -- it's the reason I keep a huge pantry. My goal is to have 2 years worth of food in case something ever happens.:thumbsup2

Here's a real sad story my grandpa told me. His father worked for the railroad, so they always had food. They were one of the lucky ones. There was at least a pot of beans, cornbread, collard greens, etc... Nothing fancy, but something to fill your belly. My great grandmother used to keep the leftovers on the back of the cookstove (biscuits, etc.) and if someone was hungry during the day they grabbed a snack.

She looked out the window one day and seen the little neighbor boy & his sister in their backyard. She knew their father didn't have work and things were hard. So she brought the boy & girl out each a leftover biscuit with some jam on it. The father seen it through the window and he came and chased the little boy around the house, finally caught up with him and took the biscuit away from him and ate it like a starving dog, then he just sat there crying. My great grandmother started sending all the extra food & leftovers she could spare over to them so they wouldn't starve.

My grandfather used to tell me this story all the time and always told me I should be prepared for another depression and I should always have a large pantry (which I do!). I can remember going to my great grandmother's house in Galveston, Texas when I was about 12 years old. It was the same house and I asked her about the story, she said it was true and her and I sat outside on the porch looking at that very yard & house where it happened and cried.

Didn't mean to turn our conversation into something depressing about the depression. But it's something that has really influenced my life and stuck with me since I was a kid.

oh thats soooo sad....:sad2: but your grandma sounds like she was one nice nice lady:goodvibes

These are the kinda stories you write down to share with your children, granchildren and beyond.

Thanks for sharing.

Aluminum cans, glass and CRV plastic....in CA.... we watched two teenagers bring in a cart full to get some cash. :thumbsup2

Kids don't play outside anymore.

I would be gone all day long, home in time for dinner.. back out again until night fall. Not an option these days, unless ya live in the backwoods some where.

I read that some cities have done away with calling time and weather .

People have cell phones, internet and TV now for that info.

I listened to story hour on the phone. That was cool, new story every week!

I remember we learned how to talk on the phone by calling the Operator and saying "Can you give me the correct time please? Thank you very much Mamm".

I love it that my kids can play outside. The other day DS & my nephews made homemade bow & arrows out of tree branches and bailing twine!:thumbsup2 Which reminds me I need to teach DS how to make tables & chairs in the woods out of sticks & twine. I taught DD how to do that & she used to have tons of them all over in the woods by our house. Think I'll have the kids start gathering up sticks tonight!:thumbsup2

bleh, weather is never accurate... it says 5mph wind but it really feels like 20 mph wind. :'(

damn balloons shifts... :P

Bye Lynn! I need to get a little more work done this afternoon also. I probably won't be around this weekend because we are waiting for the new router to show up next week. So if I don't talk to you, everyone have a wonderful weekend!:) :) :)

Hi all! I'm about to head off to go scrapbook at a friends for a little while. Isn't that sad, my Friday nights consist of not much anymore. Not that they ever did!! I won't be home till after midnight so I'll see all you hyenas tomorrow morning!!

Lauren's party is tomorrow so it will be a busy day, I probably shouldn't go tonight but I have to get out for a while to somewhere without the kiddos besides the courthouse!!!

Have a great night ladies!

Hi,
I know it's late and I'm tired. Just got back from the fair. DD13 got to go on the rides, along with my DGs. We had fun. Going back in the morning for barn duty. Oh joy!!!!!!!!!!!
Good-night, and probably good morning, by the time you read this.

Good morning, hyenas!
Or at least it is morning...

We spent the evening at a school event for DS7; saw lots of his friends there, and hung out with another mom chatting about Disneyland. :thumbsup2

Got home, everyone went to bed. I woke at 3 AM when DH was scrambling to pick up DS3 and whisk him to the bathroom sink. BLECHHHH!

Cleaned up the child, the bed and the floor, settled back into bed half an hour later. Then fifteen minutes after that it started all over again. Uff. This happened 4 or 5 times. Finally DS woke up as bouncy as usual (weird!) and wanted to play, so I reluctantly took him downstairs so DH could get a bit more sleep. (He dealt with most of the nighttime stuff.)

DS now is having issues at the other end, OMG! That has got to be one of the strongest, worst smells ever! At least that's easier to contain.

Good Morning Hyenas!!!

This is what I know...first, my internet connection sucks horribly, and hopefully I can get enough out of it to post this.

DH's work is covering the condo until the 21st of October (actually the owner refused to pay 1/2, but DH's boss thinks it is stupid and is paying the other 1/2)

I am working about 30 hours a week - so that is some really nice added income - about the offset of the money DH lost when he took this position.

Those things said - as Andrea pointed out - my ticker is back. I took it off when I figured we had about a 95% chance of not going, but as of now I would say it is about a 95% chance that we will go. It will be a quick trip for me and the kiddos (DH will be at bird show). We will probably arrive after everything is closed Friday - but be at the park all day Saturday and 1/2 the day Sunday (DH might join me then) So, as of now I am pretty sure that it is a go, again, me and the kiddos there on Saturday - so I would love to meet up with anyone that is there. I will be on my own schedule (no DH, no stupid friend), so it should all be good!!!

Ok...going to post this and hope it makes it :thumbsup2
