Unpopular Opinions- Wish Edition

While I love the classic ocean liner Art Deco look of the other ships, I actually love the "feminine" look of the Wish too. It's nice to see DCL do something different. I'm also looking forward to the Frozen restaurant. On the downside, are the reduced adult areas (that pool looks miniscule), the Aladdin show (not a bad show but disappointed for a recycled show on a new ship), the Marvel restaurant (I get it but I'm just meh on the genre), and the 3 and 4 day sailing schedule (too short to hit the alternate restaurants on the same trip). This will probably be a one and done cruise with my sister and her kids just to check it out and then it's back to the more interesting itineraries on the Magic.

I actually feel like the kids spaces are a little lacking. From what we've seen, its a bunch of screen based activities. What about the active kid that needs a place to run around and climb. After about 30 seconds of building a super hero outfit my 4 yr old will be crawling on top of the computers.

I'm underwhelmed. Not interested in Marvel and kind of feel Frozen's time has come and gone. I'm also one who is not a fan of a show during dinner. It's just way too loud without a show - especially when we have main dining. Love Aladdin but lost count of how many times we've seen it including on Broadway. We don't care about the kids clubs and adult spaces. Would have loved more/bigger pools though. I was hoping for something a little more exciting than Aquamouse - and some more "active" activities. I'm also not interested in a 3/4 night cruise. We may give it a try sometime in 2023/2024 if we can get a 5+ night cruise. As it is we're still trying to make up for all the land trips we canceled in the last year and are hoping our Wonder cruise in Feb is a go!

I'm sure those will be there. They were only highlighting specific things. Given the size of the Oceaneer Lab, I'm confident they'll have those same activities they have on the current ships.

- The Frozen restaurant doesn't make sense. With Tiana's and Rapunzel's, there are restaurants/taverns in the films so it works when Tiana is entertaining the crowd at her place on the Wonder. I think with Elsa, it will feel forced and weird.
- The itinerary - 3/4 day loops to the Bahamas. I know I keep saying this sucks, but it really, really sucks, both for the ecology of the Bahamas and for cruisers who want to go somewhere more interesting.
- Aladdin. Why repeat the show that's already on the Fantasy? Lion King and The Little Mermaid also had Broadway stage shows that could be shortened for the ship's productions.
- Kid's area - the Toy Story play area on the Wonder is great for active little ones, but this ship doesn't seem to have it.

For those of you who have studied the ship's layout more than I have (which is very little!) hoping you can help: it looks like concierge is a "mix" of what the previous ships have - Dream/Fantasy with dedicated concierge deck/section and like Magic/Wonder concierge on other parts of the ship (the new 2 story cabin, for instance). Has someone done the math of how many concierge cabins in total on the Wish v. Dream? We have only done DCL cruises in concierge on Dream class and really enjoy how quiet it seems in those areas but with Wish concierge lounge being so big wondering if there are more concierge cabins? Thanks in advance!

The dream has 41 Concierge rooms. And according to the DisneyCruiselineBlog (I don't know if I can share their link) there seem to be about 76 concierge rooms on the Wish.

Another thought - it doesn't look like there is a full ship running deck on any of the floorplans. While I'm not a runner, I know lots of people do enjoy doing that. I personally just like walking around them, it's a nice way to spend an afternoon or evening, plus you get lots of great views on days you are in port. The other Disney ships (as well as many other ships) have a mid-deck area where you can walk outside, usually under the lifeboats. Is that not a thing on this ship? Maybe on deck 4? It's not super clear, but if it on deck 4 it doesn't look very big on either side. Those decks are usually pretty quite and are just a nice place to sit and watch the world pass by, especially if you are waiting for dinner or another activity to start.
An old-fashioned promenade such as the first 4 ships have are a necessity imo. We love walking those.

Another disappointing change that was pointed out in a FB group, most cabin categories are smaller in terms of sq footage than the Classics and the Dream class. The split baths and the larger than industry standard cabin was a major feature that set DCL apart from other mass market lines.

The ship looks ok, but I found the video cringeworthy. Those two female presenters did not come across well as all. I guess my one complaint about the ship is that it does not seem traditional enough, too glossy and shiny:

We can, Scott is an awesome resource IMO!

Here's your best source for that information:

Disney Wish Stateroom List : 76 Concierge Rooms

Disney Fantasy Stateroom List : 41 Concierge Rooms

Disney Dream Stateroom List : 41 Concierge Rooms

Disney Wonder Stateroom List : 44 Concierge Rooms

Disney Magic Stateroom List : 32 Concierge Rooms

Hopefully the have enough service staff to cover that many rooms on the Wish and subsequent Triton Series Ships.

Unless they announce more, it's disappointing. The IP's are in your face too much and the adult areas seem like an oversight. For years and years, Disney said that their cruise ships are a place where kids and adults can have just as much fun in each of their areas but it feels like this is a 180. Geared toward younger kids with small adults areas. And as others have said, no nautical touches and basically Disney World at sea. Which is fine, but I feel like a lot of people want a cruise to be more relaxing than DW, which is go, go, go.

Granted, I'm probably not Disney's main target audience but it sounds like a lot of the main target audience doesn't like it either.

Thanks so much for this! Definitely food for thought for those of us that like the smaller concierge areas. But I guess if they have the right staffing ratios and the common concierge space is much larger, it may feel the same. I am now wondering if the Wish Concierge lounge will only be accessed through Deck 12 like Dream and Fantasy?

Edit: So according to the Disney Cruise Line Deck Plan 8028 is listed as a Concierge Family Stateroom. Either way 32 or33 Concierge rooms on the Magic.

Did DCL convert that one before scrapping the plan?

No idea. Disney still has it as a concierge on their deck plans but Disney IT could've easily no gotten the memo on it either.

Edit: They are being sold as 4A for the time being, just the deck plan for the magic hasn't been updated on their website to reflect that.

I’ve been thinking about this more. Good topic btw @testingh20. The problem with this ship is the same problem with toy story land and Star Wars land. They just lack creative depth. When you walk through Adventureland in MK for example, it just never gets old. There is so much, so many details, it’s all so rich. But toy story land is like 6 flags- nice, cute but flat. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that Disney is so politically correct now. It’s all so bloody boring.
