Unpopular Opinions- Wish Edition

Oh, honey you are missing out. The Avengers movies are probably some of the best movies out there. So well done. You don't even have to be someone who was into comic books or superheroes to appreciate how amazing those movies are.

It's like Star Wars - its just not everyone's cup of tea. I have tried to like the Marvel movies... the problem I run into is I like some of them, but not all of them. They refer back to each other SO MUCH though unless you see them all, you're missing out on a lot and are left with movies that are just OK. They're also CONSTANTLY coming out... its just too much to keep track of if you have little drive to keep up.

So - do you think the next Triton class ship will be the same over the top, IP, Disney in your face all the time? Maybe this is just for the short haul, first time cruisers who want to be immersed in all things Disney? I'd hate to think that long-time DCL fans will have to stick with the older ships forever to have the classic ocean liner feel with added Disney magic.
I think it's the way Disney is going with theme parks and cruises. It's not necessarily good or bad, but they are really trying to push hard their IP's. Maybe it'll change but right now it feels a little too much in your face on the Wish.

It wouldn't shock me if with future cruises, they adjust based on how the Wish goes. I'm not saying that message board members can directly cause a change, but I'm willing to bet Disney is aware of complains/praises that get posted on message boards.

I'd definitely picks SW over Marvel, but I've never been as into either as most people.

Now if Disney owned Harry Potter, then that's a whole other story...

Every word of this! Well put.
I tried watching Wanda Vision. Everyone said 'oh, you will love it'.
Week one, 'I don't get it', 'you will'.
Week two, 'I don't get it', 'you will'.
Week three, 'I still don't get it', 'you will'.
Week four, and I kid you not, 'I am just not getting it', 'you need to go and watch the Marvel movies, that will explain it all'.
Way to much work and time IMO. Not going to happen.

Disney's job is to appeal to the masses and not a niche, so I'm not surprised the Wish is overrun with various IP. If large groups of people disliked the whole thing that would be bad. I, in general, dislike the over proliferation of IP in all things Disney not just on the Wish, but they know what sells and that includes us paying for their advertising by them building it into their physical spaces.

My biggest issue like alot of people seems to be the IP in your face everywhere. The Classic and Dream ships were subtle....Disney IP was there but you had to really look for it. The MM heads in the elevator screens are a good example. This is just too much. And it continues the weird choices of IP as well......Cogsworth? A character in a France set fairytale inspiring an Italian restaraunt?? It was like when they opened a Beauty and the Beast themed bar at the Grand Floridian. What does a French fairytale have to do with a turn of the century Florida beach resort? It seems IP is getting stuck in places that aren't cohesive. Star Wars lounge....looks great however I would take the Skyline lounge anyday. Again subtle Disney...Mickey pops up in the windows of the building if you look closely. I will still sail the Wish but at this point it will be a one and done.

The only "elegant" and "upscale" IP they seem to be able to incorporate into dining is Beauty and the Beast. So it will go everywhere.

I actually see this ship as the opposite. We see constant complaining about how Disney is not a premium cruise anymore, how RCL, CCL, whoever does this better for teens, or adults or insert whatever here. What Disney does better than anyone is Disney. They have built a niche market around the world. Are they the best ride company, no, are they the best cruise company, I say yes, but others disagree, are they the best resort, no, but if you put all of the parks and the cruise line together they are the number one entertainment destination in the world, by not even a close margin. They sell magic and an escape. They build things that make you forget where you are. They don't and hopefully wont have the biggest 10,000 person ships because they cant control the magic for that many people. They sit you in a restaurant, they know they are feeding you good but not great food that is designed for 75% of the people to enjoy. What they do is give you Anna, Elsa, and superheroes while you eat, no one else can do that.

Sorry for the somewhat positive comment....:) I wish it was not doing 3/4 nights, but may save me some money by letting the new calm down a little before we book.

I agree with this, I unclearly meant the Disney masses. Which is why you get an odd eclectic mix of Start Wars bar, Marvel restaurant, Frozen restaurant, and what feels like Disney throw up. They weren't going to build a ship that was all in on one of their properties because they need to cater to the varied Disney likings.

I for one could do without every dinner being a show and Marvel as a mean experience feels odd, but they're not only catering to me.

My daughter is 13 almost 14 and is super excited about the Marvel restaurant, so maybe that is one thing for the teen group.

The thing I'm bummed about is the very limited number of inside staterooms. 5 of our 7 cruises have been in inside staterooms. We don't really spend much time in the room and inside staterooms are usually the only way we can actually afford to cruise. With such a limited number, it may be hard to get one. I won't spend a lot of money for a stateroom for a 3 or 4 day cruise.

I know we are getting waaaay off topic here, but I found something that helped with Wandavision was the fact that I was familiar with the relationship between those characters in the comics. For example, Billy and Tommy have been established characters for a few decades now, with the same powers they were given in the show. And I'm gonna bet that there will be some iteration of the Young Avengers appearing at some point, since the kids are both members of that team. Obviously I'm not suggesting to also go back and read the comics, that's way too much of a burden to "get" a TV show! What I mean though, is that especially this far into the MCU, it really is a big ask to tell people "Ha! Go and watch all 20+ movies just so you can understand a 9-episode series!"

This is one of my main concerns. After the initial announcement, which excited me, I saw the deck plans and was disappointed in the seeming lack of "affordable" options. I don't want to break the bank for a 3-4 day cruise. I'd rather splurge on 7+ nights and feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

I'm also praying that one of the next ships will be permanently based on the west coast, or just keep the Wonder in the Pacific year round. It seems like Floridians have a billion options and those of us out west get slim pickings with just one ship limited to only a few months out of the year.

From a business standpoint, it just makes sense to do what they’re doing. Disney isn’t a charity, and their goal is to extract as much money from each guest.

If I can charge a family of four $10k vs $2k, I’m charging them $10k. They really don’t eat more or require more duties or resources.

My wife and I always said we’d pay triple the price for Disney World tickets to reduce the capacity. Yes, it becomes a situation of the haves and have nots, but I believe Disney has learned from prior cruises that the demand for Concierge is high, and there’s a line of people willing to pay for it.

It seems like the Wish has been priced to separate those with the means from the average population.

My wish is that the Triton class would make the Dream class more affordable. I don't care to sail on Triton at all after learning about the Wish (and I have no optimism that future ships will revert to the old-fashioned style), so if Disney tackifying their new class of ships would give the Dream class less of a cost-premium, I'd be all for it.

The Star Wars bar. Ick, ick, ick!! Hate. Star. Wars. and will never accept it as Disney.

I sincerely hope they have other adult bars (beyond Cove and the one with the fancy restaurants) because I like to chill with a drink or a glass of wine in a quiet-ish adult area.

Haven't seen pricing yet, but they are clearly throwing in to expand concierge. The last few cruises I have tried to book have certainly had concierge sell out far before the rest of the categories, but so have the cheapest insides. I'm surprised they went so heavy on the verandah rooms and wonder if the price jump to those won't be as significant...? Aside from adding more space to concierge spaces we haven't heard of anything else being added to make the cost "worth it". My husband and I can afford it (well, cat V at least) but choose not to after doing it once. The price doubles and we'd rather sail twice.
