Unpopular Opinions- Wish Edition

I had 2 main complaints (if you could call them that) about the reveal:

  • I may be in the minority, but the AquaMouse does not look very exciting to me, and I don't like how closed in it makes the upper decks seem in the renderings. I'd prefer a more open upper deck area, and the enclosed ride seems to me to block too much of the view on half the ship.
  • Also, I feel like there weren't any real "wow" moments for me. Other cruise lines are innovating with things like iFly, roller coasters, and go cart tracks on their new ships. I don't want those things exactly, but there doesn't seem to be anything super innovative on the ship. I just hope Disney isn't falling behind with a reluctance to really try to do something new and exciting.

I'm still super excited about a new ship, and can't wait to sail, but those are the things that were nagging at me while I was watching the reveal.

castle on the sea

See I don't get this. I get it if they said princess storytale on the seas but nothing about the design says "castle" to me really.

And no I am not trying to be overly IRL I am just saying from all the movies really they are more subdued than that.

I have young daughters so it's not like I haven't saw the movies in forever either.

My husband was unhappy about the running/walking issue - it looks like it starts on deck 4 and then stairs go up to deck 5 at the front of the ship (maybe back also). That's not idea for runners. My thought is that this is a short haul cruise ship and they don't expect as many runners as you get on longer cruises with sea days.

The stairs will be a no-go for me. I am klutzy enough as it is, but to expect me to run up/down stairs is a lawsuit waiting to happen :crutches:

That's exactly how I felt. There were no real "WOW" in the presentation. When the Dream was introduced, we were wowed!! They kept the classic beauty of the Magic and Wonder but added some fabulous innovation. The Wish seems to be lacking some of that classic interior beauty plus the wow factor and looks more like many of the other main stream cruise ships out there but Disneyfied.

To be fair, sometimes the "wow" is too wow. I saw a video of the Norwegian (I think?) ship with the go-carts and laser tag, and to me it seems like a waste of upper deck space. Plus that new Virgin ship is a whole box of weirdness. For me cruising is a little bit more about rest and relaxation. That's why the Royal Oasis ships don't look like they would do much for me. I rather have a nice pool, a good view of the water, and a frozen drink in my hand than a carnival and a zip line. But, I realize that's just my opinion. I know other's totally love all that stuff, and admittedly it keeps the kids entertained. Every cruise has its own market, and Disney knows they are going for kids and families.

I agree with you, but when you cruise with teens the go-carts, laser tags and so on are a big hit. I think that's the market the cruise lines are trying to attract. Happy teen equals Happy parents..

This doesn't feel like a ship targeting teens. Yes, there will be spaces for them, but it's not like the HUGE Vibe on Dream/Fantasy and the Edge in the stack. (My teen did not like either and really stopped going after she aged out of the Club/Lab - just never found a good mix of kids on our sailings.) Wish seems geared toward younger kids and their families, which makes sense for the shorter sailings. My daughter is now 17 and is really looking forward to being able to go to the adult areas and just relaxing. But she has always been an old soul and very chill.

I've just read on a fb group that the Wish will not have magic portholes in the inside rooms. There will be no deluxe inside staterooms and all of the inside rooms will have a standard single bathroom.

That's weird because on the DCL site the inside rooms are listed as having the magic portholes when you hover over the room, but then it is not listed as one of the actual amenities. I guess they could have just copied that in error from the Dream class.

I wonder if the magic portholes are a maintenance nightmare & they're avoiding the problem ahead of time. From the concept art, the mural-type wall art looked neat

Just saw the bit about the glass door, and sure enough, looks like that is the case for all the staterooms. Whaaaat? Have they ever tried bathing a child in a tub with a glass door blocking half the tub? Especially when said child is extremely squirmy from Disney-level excitement? Yeesh. Design fail.

Think you are likely right. I expect they have had to upgrade many a family on account of a magic porthole being out of commission.

As of yesterday, you're right, it did show the magic porthole. But when I checked again today, it was gone.Inside Wish.jpg

But way nicer than ending up wrapped in a shower curtain when you try and shower! One of my biggest gripes about cruise bathrooms. Also easier to clean

I wondered about the inside staterooms when I checked it out yesterday. To get rid of that split bathroom is a really unfortunate decision. We don't even have kids and loved the split bathroom concept, so I can imagine how much of a downer that would be if we did have kids to juggle as well. To get rid of something that you revolutionized, received overwhelmingly positive feedback on (I imagine), and really sold to guests is a real head scratcher to me.

I too am wary about a Marvel restaurant - just in the idea that it could be noisy... that said I was fully expecting a star wars restaurant and I guess that would be similar. I'm sure Disney will impress with the show... however, I don't see the menu staying as exotic for long.... give it until the end of inaugural cruises and sadly I think that will be dumbed down. I expect like others have said, it will be an animators-esque show. I can deal with that.

The Star Wars bar seems like a great idea.... its now a bar that you can fill all day with families and all night with adults..... there lies the problem..... I feel it will be people just staking out a seat for photos. Also, a theme bar, whilst great, relies heavily on the bartender. I love DCL bartenders - but I do think some will lack the entertainment ability. One thought I had is that you book a 'voyage' which sees the bar sat for 1 hour... youbget a drink, you get a table, you get entertained and then the next person gets to come along..... you then move on to another bar.... which....

.... as others have pointed out there doesn't seem to be much announced bar-wise. I'm sure there will be a sports bar/pub - im also holding out for a piano bar which really does make the classic ships stand out.

Another issue I have is the pool space for adults. I guess we won't know til we see it, but firstly I feel like it's small, secondly (anyone been to aulani will tell you) infinity pools just seem to attract EVERYONE - That space has the potential to be bustling! I really hope we get some kind of satellite falls also.... which we should all remember was introduced when they didn't include enough adult pool space on the Dream Class!

Frozen - Meh.... I feel like DCL now always have a princess restaurant, so that is to be expected. What my concern is; the menu in these restaurants tend to be lacking in quality and DCL try to make up for it with singing and dancing and people coming to your table..... entertaining, but let's remember we go to restaurant to to eat.

Palo/Enchante/Rose bar all look great.... can only imagine the cost of amuse bouche items from Enchante that will be served in the Rose Bar.... which has always been a gripe of mine that DCL charge for food in bars.... still, there will be uncharges a-plenty I'm sure. I don't mind the themeing.... I guess.... im sure it will be tasteful..Im just hesitant as to what Palo will become price-wise with an a-la-carte menu.

I feel in general the ship feels very feminine in appearance. I also feel like the average check at the end of this cruise will be about double of what it is now.... as I've said, I imagine it will be uocharge central - but that's Modern IP driven disney!

Finally..... my biggest gripe.... ALADDIN.... really?! I implore everyone to watch on YouTube Mickeyband the Magician from DLP, Mickey and the Wondrous Book from Hong Kong and Mickey and the Magical Map.... all DCL style shows they could have repurposed over this old show!

This is EXACTLY what I was coming here to say. As someone who usually books two connecting interior staterooms, these were the exact two issues I was disappointed about. My kids really love the magic portholes. And the split bath is always nice.
