Univited ANTS....help

White Vinegar is very effective, i suggested this to my friend, who was about to call Terminix, she hasn't seen an ant since she wiped down her baseboards with white vinegar.

I also just read that coffee granules will get rid of them too. They don't like the smell and if they digest it, it will kill them.

Good luck

Plain old Borax will do the trick.. And if you want a little "extra" barrier and you can see where they're coming in, go to your hardware store and buy some powdered chalk.. Sprinkle that around the outside of your house and they won't cross it to come indoors..

There's no need to spend a lot of money on products that are dangerous to kids and pets.. Stick to the cheap, tried & true methods..

We have been sharing the kitchen with ANTS for more than a month.

Does anyone have an inexpensive way to get rid of them???

I have tried to follow them, to find the source or at least where they are coming in.

Right now I have a black pepper border around the sink area and it seems to be detering them for now.

If it would rain hard/long enough, or have a good cold snap, or something.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!

The most important step is to keep the kitchen so clean you feel like you are going INSANE, I mean every crumb, any deviation from total cleanliness will result in a setback. I was up cleaning my kitchen at 10pm tonight because I didn't want to be greeted by ants tomorrow morning while trying to cook for the kids.

Besides keeping the house tidy I have bleached all the surfaces and floorboards.

I have also put Borax around perimeter of kitchen floor and on countertops and windowsills.

This is keeping the ants at bay. I have been keeping this up for the last week and only saw ants one day when I wasn't meticulous about tidying up after dinner.

do any of these tricks work for carpenter ants? I dont have them in the house but i see them all around the patio. Years ago when i moved the house failed the inspection and it was over $500 to drill in to the foundation and get rid of them.

thanks for the all the great tips as usual!

You need to locate the carpenter ant nest. Yes, you can use Terro outside. However, if you see the ants, they may be doing damage to your house somewhere off the patio so you'll want to be sure to locate where that is and eliminate them.

I had ant issues about 3 months ago. I came here and got some awesome advise. Grits! :) Put some down where you know the ants are coming from. Leave it there for a few days. The ants take it to the queen and it kills her thus killing the remaining ants. I haven't had any more issues even with all the rain we have had. :) good Luck!

When looking for ant nests outside, I find that they LOVE to nest under larger rocks and paver stones. If you have anything like that around your property and you are able to lift up the stone/paver, check under each one, you may be surprised at what you find! If you do find a nest, you can use the appropriate poison to get rid of them.

I just found two nests this way myself last week.
