Actually we have had two things happen to us that was really great. We were at one of the express pass machines oneday and an employee passed. I began to ask her some questions about express pass and she said "let me give you this, it will help you out for the rest of the day." I looked down after she walked off and she had written on her business card for us to be admitted to express line on all rides.

Another good deed was at IOA. We were on Spiderman, already seated on the ride, when it broke down. Everyone was unloaded from the cars and given express passes to come back. On of the employees that was standing there noticed how disappointed my little boy was so he offered to take us to Jurassic Park river adventure ride and get us to the front of the line, which he did. But he did not stop at this, he waited on us to get off of this ride and walked us over to Pteranodon Flyers through the back door and straight onto the ride. All of this, plus we got an express pass to get back on Spiderman.

Cool!

From what I'm reading about kudos, the things Universal employees give to guests really don't cost the company a whole lot (if anything), but they mean a great deal to guests.

July of 2001, we were on Spiderman when the effects at the end of the movie did not work (the part with the fall). Most of the people in our vehicle had been on the ride before, so we knew the effects were not working. We told the person letting us out of the vehicle about the malfunction and how disappointed all of us were. HE said ..."ok, stay seated..." and away we went :teeth:

If that means you stayed on the vehicle, then the employee violated safety. If you were offered to go right around through the child swap hallway, then it was right.

As for the bringing guests over, I've done that many times before. Often I'd just be walking behind a family and casually eavesdropping, then I'd "appear" and talk to them. I cant count how many times I've done this, but I know that the guests were always happy. This one family I took to Ice dragon (they had done fire already), then Unicorn, then to Posiedon's Fury. They weren't sure if they'd be able to get all of that in and then hit Cat in the amount of time they had left. I helped them so that they'd have just enough time to spare. :)

I am really glad to here such wonderful words. I am a regular at both IOA and USF and a few times at IOA I was treated like a piece of garbage. My wife, my niece, and her parents were entering Popeye and Bluto's Barges. We reached the area where you wait to board, when my niece, who is 7, decided to remove her shoes. Unfortunately for her, the employee standing there decided to make an example of her and started to yell at the top of her lungs at my niece about removing her shoes before she enters the ride. She then grabbed her arm and told her she was not to ride the attraction for the rest of the day. When I went over to her and told her how rude and disrespectful she was towards my family, she starting yelling obsentities (?SP). We immediately went over to a employee dressed in a suit and told him our side of the story. He then asked the employee if it was true. She looked him straight in the eyes and said, "F@#k NO!" She was then escorted off the ride and we were given 3 complimentary passes to both IOA and Universal. He apologized over and over again for the rudness and said because they hire a lot of teens, they sometimes have a few bad apples. Other guests that day had also complained about her to guest relations and we were told she would be disiplined for her actions.

But on a good note, that was 2 years ago and we have had no one go out of their way, but everyone seems concerned about our experience at the parks.

Unversal employees are wonderful...they are all smiles and ready to do whatever it takes. I love it!

The parks are clean, the bathrooms are clean, the resorts are excellent.

That employee was probably fired on the spot. There's a line between firmness and rudeness, and she crossed it. The only time employess can be "bad cop" is when safety is an issue. As for the shoe thing, *I* would've told your niece that she needed to keep them on (they're supposed to be kept on the entire time, but many people take them off once seated). May I suggest bringing sandals next time :p :jester: LOL.

Actually I did tell her to keep them on but being 7 and being excited about being there, (this was her first time) she forgot. You know how kids can be. I am sure this employee was fired, but she wasn't the only one. Sometimes I noticed that some of the younger employees have a bad day and they cannot control their feelings and end up taking it out on an unlucky person. I've even seen an employee pull out her cell and have an arguement with someone. She then turned to the next guest in line and told the family to move a little faster or they will be kicked off. She was fired right after that incident because she broke the rules about her interaction with the guests and using a cell during her job.

But please don't think I am bashing Universal, because I am not. I think it is great! There are always a few bad apples everywhere you work. I've seen it at Disney as well. I am just unlucky to be a witness to this.

There will always be bad apples, and believe me, every effort to get them weeded out before they get into the parks and do things like you described. I know how one bad apple can ruin an entire day, but there's plenty of good apples ready to make it bright again. ;)

At least the manager handled it well and took care of you!

I'll give a good employee story from my one trip to IOA. If anyone remembers my trip report from May 2001 I felt VERY QUEASY after riding the Hulk. So I had a Coke and sat for an hour and tried to settle my stomach. I started feeling better so told my family I was ready to try Spiderman - HUGE MISTAKE!!! I spent the whole ride with my eyes closed trying not to be sick - I was UNSUCCESSFUL! So we finally get to the exit and I'm trying to clean myself up and tell the attendant the seat needs cleaning and we're the last people to leave the exit area. The Green Goblin jumps out at us to scare us - takes one look at me - and says, "Are you Okay?" Apparently I was Greener then he was!! He took me through a door to the employee break room and wash room to clean up and got me some water. I thought that was really nice - especially for a Villian!!

I'm going to go on Spidey before I do anything else this time - hopefully I'll be able to SEE it this time!! I'm also hoping that losing weight will make me not get sick anymore! I love coasters - but after that I was afraid to even TRY Dueling Dragons.
