Not sure how Disney could have made the test "fair." By testing it on all guests at once, I guess, is the only way they could have done it. But then it really isn't a test, it's a full rollout.
What is this concept of "fair" that people keep talking about? Is this a new thing?
I stayed on site in Nov/Thanksgiving 2011 and went to MVMCP, parkhoppers, etc..the whole nine yards. It was a FANTASTIC trip...but now, as a last minute trip because the opportunity just presented itself, my husband and I are taking our 3 and a half year old down for three days right before Christmas. This is a trip just for her since she was only 18 months old last time and she is really into princesses right now. We are staying in a timeshare and if not, we wouldn't be able to go right now. I don't think it's fair to say we should suffer just because we aren't staying on site. Disney already gouges people in infinite ways already...why should the people who don't stay in their hotel suffer more? Our money for our tickets into the parks is just as green as those who pay to stay on site.
Eh, I don't see it as 'suffering.' You're spending the same amount to get into the park but someone staying on property is giving them an additional amount of money. In order for people to pay the prices to stay on property there have to be extras given or no one would do it. You still have access to regular FP for now. And eventually it's supposed to be live for all. For now, on site guests get the enjoyment of this first. From a logical stand point I don't see it being unfair at all.
Coming from someone that recently booked an offsite stay for xmas-NY week. We were originally going to schedule a Presidents week trip in Feb but due to work I had to scramble a dec trip together.
I'm upset granted that we don't get access to FP+, but what makes it worse is the on-property folks using the FP+, EMH and then double dipping into the FP-, the only chance we offsite have to get on 1st tier rides. So now we have to scramble to be a rope drop, run our ***** off to the FP- kiosk in hopes of securing any chance of a 1st tier ride. Granted Disney makes a ton of money from on-property guests, but if they continue to screw the offsite guests me thinks they will only have on-site guests left, especially in the busy seasons. That has got to cut into their bottom line.
During the week between Christmas and New Years you pretty much have to get there at rope drop to get a fastpass for the first-tier rides anyway. Resort guests double dipping, or not.

You don't have to see it as suffering. She wasn't asking how you felt, she was stating how she felt about her trip. Do I think I am going to be "suffering" on my December trip (offsite)? Nope - we've made some changes to our plan and it'll be great. That's me. Some posters here - not you in particular - just *can't live* with an opinion/feelings different than their own. Some upset people posting on the DIS will not neutralize the pixie dust. I promise.

.... Wut?
You might be reading into my post a bit more than necessary. This is a discussion board and people discuss things. Just as the poster is free to feel like she's 'suffering' I'm free to say 'nah, I don't think so' and then say why.
Seems pretty standard discussion board etiquette to me... Someone disagreeing with me isn't going to upset me in the slightest and certainly won't have any bearing on my trip. I just don't see the logic behind being angry about this honestly. Disappointed? Sure.
How is my post any different than yours? It's just my opinion. You joined the discussion, so it seems standard board etiquette to me that I can comment, lol! Otherwise, just put something on there so I know it's off limits. As for "not ruining your trip," good lord, I should certainly hope not! I just got my bands, and started researching. I must admit, I nearly cried several times while reading this thread. When did they stop the regular line? I think it is absolutely absurd to cheat guests out of rides because they are not staying onsite.
It seems like it won't be worth going to Disney if you can't wait in line to ride/meet the characters. I feel sorry for all the off site guests who will not have the ability to ride anything, they are certainly being cheated. I hope that Disney offers them a refund since they will have to "suffer" and "won't be able to ride 1st tier rides".
Hopefully Disney will fix this soon. Everyone attending the park should have the opportunity to decide if they want to wait in line or not.
Universal gives the option to purchase the privilege. Not apples to apples.
Op, we are off site in a couple of weeks. I almost switched but decided 2 bedrooms for $250 was too sweet. I love some time to myself
Hopefully they cut the double dipping soon. Then those same people will be stuck with only three fp's and a glitchy system![]()
