Underwater Digital Camera Info - Different Models (merged threads)

I bought the Olympus 8000 and the Olympus strap (the orange one) yesterday from Best Buy. I took it to the pool today and the camera and the strap performed perfectly. Contrary to what some have said, the strap works really well (at least it does on my 8000). I even gave the camera a slight toss and the strap didn't even go under an inch. Maybe they improved them because of the heavier weights of the newer cameras?? I don't know but I'm happy with mine!

This is the strap --> http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...608038&IcsCsid=39-413-7-29943-0-12163-419-0-1

That's great to know! Thanks.:)

WOO HOO!! Just received my Canon D10 from Amazon. I paid $277 from Amazon with free shipping. I've played with it a bit but can't wait to get it in water to try it out. We are going to the Baths at Virgin Gorda while at Tortola and I'm so excited about having this camera. I was a little leery taking our SLR so now I won't have to!

The Vivtar W850 underwater video recorder. It was takes still pictures. I paid just $99!!!!

I'd like to purchase a new underwater digital before our cruise in June. Has there been an update to the Canon D10 or is that the newest version Canon has?

We have the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 and LOVE IT! Waterproof to 33 feet. My husband whitewater kayaks so we needed something durable. The picture quality isn't quite as good as our Canon G9, but really good for when we are in the water.

That was a good price. Adorama is our competitor. Chalk one up for them this time.

I am so confused! I've been watching this thread since it started, trying to decide on an underwater camera to buy. It's getting close to time when I need to get something, but I can't make a decision. These five cameras are what I'm looking at:

Cannon PowerShot D10
Panasonic Lumix DMc-TS2D
Pentax Optio W-90
Sony DSC-TX5
Olympus Stylus Tough -8010

I want the camera that takes the best pictures in sea and on land. Opinions please?

We bought the Canon D10 for our cruise and we really like it. I think it does a great job both in and out of water. Here is a picture taken in the water w/o the water setting (forget to change it) and it still did a good job:

I was leaning towards the Canon but heard complaints that it is the bulkiest of the bunch. I would really love something that could go easily in a pocket.

We have the Canon D10, and have really liked it. It's a little bulky, but we don't have another small camera to compare it to. We usually wear it on our wrist in the water (We can change the lanyard around as needed) and in a case when we're out of the water.

It's worked really well for us. We used it on our last cruise in the water and when we parasailed. We still use it in the water - including last weekend at WDW. The underwater photo is from WDW. And the boat shot is from DCL last fall.

You are right about it being bulky and it won't fit in the pocket. But compared to our Canon DSLR, it is quite small and very manageable. :goodvibes I bought a Disney strap at WDW and just carry it around my neck when I'm using it frequently and carry in a bag with extra SD cards and batteries when I'm not. When I'm in the water, I use a floatable wrist strap.

I just got the Sony Cyber Shot TX5 and it is really amazing! I tried it out last week in the water and am still shocked at how clear and detailed the underwater pictures are. I could see every freckle on my face! It is super thin and very light.

We are going to Hawaii soon and I really want an underwater camera so that we don't have to leave our camera on the beach. We need something that can take great underwater pictures and terrific landscape pics.

I keep hearing about leaks, even on brand new cameras. I would be crushed if my new camera leaked on vacation. What should we buy???

Carmie & OurOhana - absolutely gorgeous photos! :goodvibes

I still haven't purchased anything yet, but am leaning towards the Canon D10. Buying a waterproof camera isn't so easy here in the UK - the stores don't seem to stock them at all. :confused3 I guess Ebay might be my best option.

info on this thread is helpful. i also want to consider getting a waterproof digital camera for an upcoming caribbean cruise. the photos posted from the canon have been wonderful to see. helps to compare the underwater vs land photos. anyone else who has photos from other cameras to see quality - would love to see them as i myself am trying to narrow down a list of what to get.

I cannot find this post but I remember looking at someones photos from snorkeling. They said they took their pics with a camera that could go under water up to 30 ft I believe. It took beautiful photos and I cannot remember the brand or model. I believe it was also under $200! Anyone out there seen this thread and have that info for me?

Much thanks!

My brother has a Canon (It's the Canon Powershot D10) that sounds like what you described. It's 12 megapixels and took magnificent underwater pictures on our southern caribbean cruise last month. I'm totally getting one before our next Disney cruise in October! I don't think that it bulky at all...fits just about anywhere and was very light when attached to your wrist for snorkeling.

How do you like your DicaPac protector? I was looking at the waterproof housing for our Canon SD850 but they don't make it anymore. With all the reviews about underwater cameras leaking, I'm thinking maybe this is the way to go. Does it come with a wrist strap?
