Um...Magic Bands I didn't order??

We booked our WDW vacay in 2019 for a 2020 trip. I bought "special" magic bands that arrived in April 2020 for our May 2020 trip that didn't take place. We are re-booked and due to leave a week from tomorrow. I just got an USPS notification stating: "The Fun is About to begin! Your MagicBand order is on it's way". Umm...I didn't order (nor paid) for new bands! When I go into MDE I see solids gray ones for me, DH and DS that are active, along with our special ones. So are we getting new ones, did anyone else due to travel soon get this email as well? I told DH if we really DO get new ones I will bring them along incase our 2020 special bands don't work.

Yes, this has happened frequently.

Your bands from 2020 will work just fine. Any and all Magic Bands associated with a particular person will work just fine and are completely interchangeable.

I think they still make Magic Band decals if you want to make your gray ones special, too. You could have two sets to switch out on your trip.

We got the same thing for the trip we just had May 9-18. They sent us the gray magic bands even though they weren’t supposed to be free anymore. We figured that for upcoming visits they are just basically sending out the huge stock of gray ones they had sitting around and will stop sending them when they run out of stock. Our bands from 2019 worked just fine too, so your special ones will work fine.

That’s so weird! We we’re also supposed to go last May and since we still have our bands from that trip I didn’t order new ones. We haven’t been sent any and we leave this Saturday.

If you booked your trip before they announced the change you are grandfathered in I believe. To avoid this you can go through the order process and click “reuse a band” for each guest under their name on the screen where you choose a band.

We also got gray MBs that we didn't order for our trip in May. I booked after they were supposed to be free. Last time we went before covid, December 2019, we also got MBs that we didn't order.

When you say interchangeable, once a magic band is issued to a person, can you switch it? My son is brining his friend this year, we have a bunch of "old" magic bands that were assigned to us for previous trips. Can one of those be "repurposed" for his friend so he doesn't have to buy a magic band?

No, once a guest has used a MB it may not be used by anyone else.

I believe the poster meant once a MB is assigned to you, you may use it on multiple trips. We now have many MBs and bring them all, allowing us to coordinate with our outfits when we choose.

Ah - Got it thanks. I thought that was the case, but didn't know if anything changed when they stopped offering free bands. We have a lot of bands, many of which same color, many came without us requesting them during the free band days - Its a shame I cannot repurpose one of the duplicate color ones to a new person in the party... Oh well.
