I noticed the Virgin flight from manchester departed on time this morning, so hopefully this is happening elsewhere too!

The flight will go on time - it just might not have all its passengers

I've just remembered that during my last trip (2006) i was asked to switch on my phone at the boarding gate in Manchester airport. They were picking out randomly at the time, so maybe it's not such a new check but with so many electronics being taken and the new threats they are just checking all.

This is as wonderful (not!) as the summer when they first banned liquids...ALL liquids, they made us all surrender every pen we had on our person, kids without pens on the trip to colour with, then they brought the green cards around sand announced that people would have to use their own pens to fill them in, as they could not be lending pens out!!!!! We were forced to point out to the staff that we had all been made to give up our pens before boarding!
