Has anyone heard about two new Disney parks opening soon? They are about due for a new one.

I heard a rumor that they are making a theme park like EPCOT but this one is different areas of the United States like West Coast, East Coast, North & South. I would love to see something like that for people who cant travel to every state.

Iger talked about Theme Parks in a Box... indoor properties in other cities. But no one knows what was meant by this and if it will ever come to life. I'd keep an eye on the DC National Harbor project and the Hawaiian Resort... My guess is those are the two most likely places you'd see something IF it happened.

Sounds like another "Theme Park in a Box" idea .... DisneyQuest.

In case you didn't know.

I heard something about a Disney Channel and Harry Potter park. Maybe Disney Channel is true but Disney doesn't even own Harry Potter, plus they're constantly changing the shows on Disney Channel, so I don't know how that would work either. So I'd take those two theories with a grain of salt. I also heard of a colonial-type park.

Sorry, but a Disney Channel park makes no sense at all. The shows there typically only last 2-4 years at best making rides short term investments. Also, Universal kind of holds the rights to Harry Potter and are currently making an area for him. Disney should not think about any new parks in their American parks because we really don't need anymore for a long time. We are all spoiled by Michael Eisner's "Disney Decade" and the binge of parks that came out 1990-2000. I don't expect or want another park until 2020.

Where was the American themed park supposed to go - WDW or some other country? Also, you said they were opening 2 parks - does that mean the other one is in China, or are you saying they're planning 2 parks for WDW? What was the theme of the second park?:)

There are no new parks being built at WDW. They are working with the Chinese goverment on building a new DL outside Shanghai. They are expanding the one in HK with several new lands. They are currently renovating DCA. Disney also purchased property outside Washington for a hotel/DVC and themed-area/mall beside it, but nothing on the scale of an actual DL. That much is fact. Everything else is wishful.

I've heard that the Night Kingdom idea is dead. Supposedly, it scored very low on the polls. I personally thought it was a pretty dumb idea. As for new parks to WDW, I'm sure that no one on the boards can say with certainty if there is or isn't a new park planned for the next 5 years or so. What I do know is that there are always theme park plans being drawn up for sometime in the future. It's just a matter of them being green lit. If they are, I'm sure that Disney has done more and better research on the need for new parks than anyone on Disney fan boards.:hippie:

They were planning to put these parks in WDW. I don't know what the second theme was because I didn't ask. I was still excited to hear about the United States one.

I also heard they were planning to add a few countries in EPCOT too.

Matt Hart from July171955.com hasn't heard the United States park rumor, but admitted that it could be an idea that they are tossing around. He believes that they are developing a 5th park. He thought that the second one might be the new one in China, (before you mentioned it's planned for WDW). I'm not sure what it could be, but I have read a new rumor about a niche park that may take the place of the Night Kingdom/Jungle Trek park that was rumored last year. The new rumor claimed that it would be an indoor park more for adults. It would have have four different sections themed to different places like Venice and New York. It would have rides. The rumor said that it would cost $250 per person that would include the restaurants. It sounds like just a cast member being creative, but you can't count out anything with Disney.:hippie:

Hmmm. Sounds sort of like Epcot....but more expensive

Yea Shanghai is next. Expansion at Hong Kong. I would imagine a new park at Disneyland and Disney World by 2020. The arrival of the 3rd park at Disneyland will depend how the expansion at California Adventure performs. It things go really well, then a third park could come 2016-2020 but if things go bad I would say earliest is 2020. A fifth park at Disney World will probably also be around 2015-2020 but its hard to say.

Hate to break it to you guys, but the "3rd gate" at Paris will be almost certainly be ahead of any new park in America.

That was part of the original master plan and was a requirement of the original government agreement apparently that it had to be built by a certain year (2015 I think?). Along with that, they're going to need another hotel or two, and the 2nd phase of Disney Village as well to support the 3rd park. Thats going to be a huge investment.

I believe you are resurrecting the dead idea of WESTcot, not intended for representing the entire country but rather only Science and Knowledge as its theme. It was to be the western Epcot (hence WESTcot) and would have been built where California Adventure is today but was cancelled due to cost. Here is a link to a fine presentation of artwork and the ideas meant to be. http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2008/03/westcot-project-artwork-and-special.html

I completely forgot about Disneyland Paris, you are probably correct.

Sosai X: I wouldn't be so sure of that, I believe there will be a 3rd park eventually. Both Iger and Grier have hinted at it through the press and at cast member functions.
