Two New Parks?

I've read on another site, that is suppose to have good sources, that the WDW 5th park will be the next major park project after Shanghai. Although, they still haven't got a final agreement on their 2nd China park. I think that they're hoping that Shanghai Disneyland will open by 2014.:hippie:

There will never be another park in Anaheim. There's nowhere to build it. And don't say the strawberry fields is the next place. That will end up as support parking for the whole Anaheim Resort area.
There is no way another park would fit in DLR. There really isn't any room at all. The entire resort sits on one "square" piece of land and the surrounding area is already completely developed. Not to mention, in order to build more it would have to be across the major roads of Harbour or Katella and that isn't happening. As nice as it would be, it's not happening.

Wth Disney purchasing Marvel, why not have a new park at WDW for all of its characters? You have Spiderman, Capt America, Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, Avengers, Illuminati, Excalibur and Mutants just to name a few. Just a thought.

The villains/thrill ride rumor is one of the worst, most laughable ideas ever to come off the Internet, likely from Jim Hill, but who really knows? It's such a narrow-minded notion that kids under 10 (Disney's core demographic BTW) or their parents would ever step foot inside it, or that Disney would spend $2 billion to make it happen. That's the kind of idea that makes for a poser park, a la Universal. Disney can and does do so much better than that. If you need further proof, I'll remind you of the villains character meal at 1900PF at GF, which was cancelled because it was scaring the nonsense out of kids.

Anyway, Disney buying Marvel was a coup de gras. It shocked the entertainment industry, and now Disney owns a new demographic, males, ages 8-35. However, there are too many contracts in place to allow Disney to do anything with Spidey, Hulk and a few others for quite some time. Don't look for any park-related rides or attractions anytime soon. It doesn't matter, though. That $4 billion purchase will net them $10 billion+ in a decade.

Disney FTW!!!

First off the Villain park, this is a real idea. It was planned as a fifth park during the '90s. Its actual name is Dark Kingdom, (sometimes referred to as Shadowlands). If you don't believe me, google either of those names, although you may have to search farther than the first couple of pages). I found it in, I believe it was the Orlando Business Journal. They had inside info regarding theme park ideas. Dark Kingdom wasn't just about villains, it was also about the darker aspects of Disney films. It was sort of a spooky Magic Kingdom. From those who have seen the plans, they say that it is one of the best parks that they have ever designed. Will it ever make it off the drawing boards? There are several rumors that it will, but we'll have to wait and see.
Second, for those who claim that there is too much to do at WDW. I've read post after post from international tourists who may spend up to 2 weeks only at WDW. They complain that there is not enough to do, and they would love for more parks to open. WDW is more reliant on international tourists with extended stays than they are with American tourists.

Villains, bad idea.
Marvel good?

Your "demographics" contradict each other.

Disney villains are way less scary than many of Marvels. I understand it will be a while before Disney does anything with Marvel, especially in the parks, however, you said Marvel would would attract "x" type of people, would Villains and thrill rides not attract that, plus more than just these fan boys?

Besides, I wouldnt, and I really doubt Iger would do it, or any of the board members approve of such an idea, it was more or less a joke I was making. "A la Universal".....Who had Marvel first?

I guess you didn't read what I wrote. I never said anything about Disney opening any parks, rides or attractions containing Marvel characters. I simply said the revenue stream from owning the Marvel brand will net them beaucoup bucks. I didn't contradict anything. Please re-read.

Disney can blow 4bil on Marvel, but still have to lay off cast members.....Hmmm. What would Walt have done?

If you knew anything about Walt Disney you'd know he was an artist, visionary and dreamer who had no concept of money. That was the responsibility of his brother, Roy, and Roy had his hands full with funding every dream Walt ever had till the day he died. If alive today, Walt Disney couldn't possibly manage the multi-billion dollar conglomerate of his namesake company. People really need to stop comparing the milkman, paperboy, .10 cent Coca-Cola world of the 1930s to 21st-century business and economics. Disney laying off hundreds was necessary to streamlining their operations. Those CMs were not essential for day-to-day operations. Disney buying new assets is also necessary to broadening their marketshare, and purchasing Marvel was a stroke of genius. :)

Disney FTW!!!

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from but a villains theme park was only ever rumor. There were never any formal blueprints, schematics, renderings, executive backing or Imagineering involvement in the idea. Show me the physical evidence to the contrary -- actual imagery and acknowledgement from WDI -- and I will believe you.

And if by Page 8 in a Google search you are referring to this...

...and the following insert:

Fifth Gated Themepark at WDW: Shadowlands?
Rumors run amok on the Internet that the fifth gated themepark at WDW will be called Shadowlands, presumably to tie into the Disney Villains theme. People are reporting that this is official, but no one has been able to point us to anything that substantiates these reports.

This only proves my point. It's a childish "rumor run amok" from "people" that was never based in fact.

Disney's America, DAK's Beastly Kingdom, WestCOT, Port Disney, and even most recently the Night Kingdom were all very real and such imagery and WDI plans do exist to support them. Most of these ideas were born in the 1990s, not to mention Euro Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea and DCA, all of which actually came to light. Neither Disney management nor WDI ever loaned their time to a villains kingdom idea nor will they ever moving forward.

Sorry.

Hate to break it to you guys, but the "3rd gate" at Paris will be almost certainly be ahead of any new park in America.

That was part of the original master plan and was a requirement of the original government agreement apparently that it had to be built by a certain year (2015 I think?). Along with that, they're going to need another hotel or two, and the 2nd phase of Disney Village as well to support the 3rd park. Thats going to be a huge investment.

Have there been any rumours as to what kind of park they're thinking of opening in Paris? If they want to have it built by 2015, they must have already started to plan it...

I'm looking forward to the new hotels, I wonder what themes they will go for?

Disney Village is in desperate need of a revamp- I don't suppose too many of you have visited DLP, but let me tell you that it is somewhat soulless and lacks a great deal of atmosphere.

No matter what any original contract stipulates, I do not foresee Disney building a 3rd gate in Paris until they've maxxed out WDS first, and there is still plenty of room to expand the 2nd park. A new park in this economy is not an affordable expense for either Disney, nor the majority owners of DLP, and would cost a minimum $3+ billion USD. Remember, when it was Euro Disney it was not very popular for the same reason HK isn't or DCA wasn't. They were built on the cheap and are little more than half-day parks. Even WDS has that issue currently, and I can assure you Disney won't be making that mistake ever again with any new parks moving forward. Those are all remnants of Eisner's waning days -- he built the shells of parks quite nicely but never put the protein on the inside.

I have been to DLP and can safely say it is the most beautiful of all Disneylands, but like Anaheim, HK and even Tokyo to an extent, it does not create the ambient atmosphere that WDW gives you. The big boy is an immersive vacation, whereas the rest will only ever be 1 or 2-day trips. DLP is getting some new attractions, that much is certain. But of all the rumors floating around about new parks, DLP is not among and I don't see it happening anytime soon. Refurbing Disney Village and the resorts, now that's possible.

Have no idea if they will add a 5th park at WDW but if they do I would
love it if they would build DisneySea in Orlando.
I would love to see that park but can't afford the time and cost to
travel that far to see it.

It's a shame. I think that DLP has the potential to be fantastic, but at the moment WDS is really letting the side down (along with other factors of course). It's a lot better now they've got ToT but it is full of vast spaces and dud attractions (Armageddon). It's unfair to compare really, but Hollywood Studios is a million times better- the theming is fantastic. Hopefully we'll be seeing bigger and better things in WDS's future.

You're right, Disneyland Park is lovely. I haven't been to any of the other parks (yet!), but I agree with you that WDW is more of an experience, while DLP is certainly lacking something at the moment. It will take a long time for it to get anywhere near as huge or as engaging as WDW- if it ever does. For what it is though, I do enjoy it and I am very interested to see how it progresses in the future.

DisneySea does look very good. I have visited DLP and WDW so far- next on my list is California, then Tokyo.

This is not even mentioning spending a night at Pleasure Island,

Oh you mean the irish restaurant, "family friendly" cigar bar, Harley Davidson, and curl shops, paradiso 37 and the 7 empty buildings right? "Everywhere you look, there's fun things to do! It just keeps getting better!"

Otherwise I agree with you. I just had to point out that no one spends a night at Pleasure Island anymore. May it RIP

Condorman, I'm not going to have an arguement with you about Dark Kingdom (Shadowlands) and I don't have time now to look up the various articles confirming the fact. If I do find time, I will provide a link. As for blueprints etc. - sorry I don't have access to that nor do most people outside of imagineering, but they do exist, I'll assure you. The concept is very real, if you were allowed to visit imagineering to review the various park concepts, I'm sure you would find your proof. As of now, you'll just have to take my word for it - or not (your choice).:thumbsup2

Does anyone know how to condense long URLs so that the link doesn't break? If so, let me know, so I can post the Villain park link. Thanks!:)

Here's one link about the once proposed Villain park. I'll try to find more when I have time.:)
