Two curse words in the previews before "Cars" which is a rated G movie. Anyone else?

When we went to see "Cars", a preview for the upcoming movie "Flicka" was shown. The preview for "Flicka" had two curse words in it. (DAMN was the word, used twice.) I was quite upset. I understand that Flicka is probably a rated PG movie and so cursing may be used. However, "Cars" is rated G. We don't expect cursing in a rated G movie so we don't expect to hear it in the previews. :furious: I plan to contact someone about this and voice my disappointment. I was just wondering if anyone else had that same preview with curse words before "Cars." I was not sure if it is based on the city, theater, or what.

I believe that preview is shown in all theaters for Cars. I noticed the word, but it wasn't too big of a deal for me (or the children I was with). They hear harsher words than that on the TV at home.

On a side note, I cannot wait for Flicka to come out. That movie looks so good! Lots of eye candy! :p

I don't think too many people consider damn a curse word anymore. Damn and crap are used so often on early prime time TV that I think standards are looser. I don't particularly think those words are fine for all to hear, but I don't make the standards.

I don't recall a preview for Flicka.

FTR Cars is a G-rated movie with innuendo in it ("I'd give my two left lug nuts just to see that")...I guess I am not too offended by the D word seeing as I don't really recall the preview at all.

Often times they will slate the rating prior to a preview. A little too late to do anything about it--but a heads up.

Didnt notice it. However my kids have heard much, much worse come tumbling out of my mouth.... I have a tendency towards the *F* word if I get angry.... :rolleyes1

*ahem* That being said - they use the *D* word, as well as the *C* word-meaning poop- even on Television. I dont think *D* is as "bad" as it once was.

:confused3

Sorry - I didnt notice, nor was offended.

Oh my God the world's coming to an end!!!!!

Seriously? IMO Damn is not a 'curse' word! :confused3

I also don't see the big deal and don't consider it a curse word!

I didn't notice either but that could be because (a) I was mesmerized by Tim McGraw or (b) still recovering from having the crap scared out of me during the "Monster House" preview :rotfl:

Actually I consider the use of God's name in the sentence above to be a curse word. Growing up, my parents would ground us for blasphemy, but we'd usually get a free pass on "damn". "Damn" barely makes me blink.

Hmm we didn't get that preview. All of our previews were animated films. That said, I wouldn't make a big deal about it. Growing up damn was considered a curse word, I guess I don't consider it one now. And like someone else said, there is the dam that holds back water. I mean, I am sure your kids don't know about the "bad" meaning if you were upset you heard it during the previews. KWIM?

I agree with you OP. While I do not say it, I watch TV that does say damn. But I don't want my kids watching it. They don't watch anything that has curse words. That's my right as a parent, and if you're taking your child to see a G rated movie, which wouldn't have damn in it, then the previews should be G as well. I have noticed this lately with the movies. I guess you just have to avoid the movies if you don't want to expose your children to those things. It's obvious that people don't care anymore. If you want to keep things from your kids that other people think is appropriate it makes you wrong. :confused3

Well I agree with you. ;)

I consider "damn" as much of a curse word as "hell" and that was said twice (hillbilly hell) in Cars. For the record, we've seen Cars twice now and haven't seen a trailer for Flicka.

All the commercials before a film are rated G. There's usually that blue or green (not sure) screen at the beginning that says, "This PREVIEW has been rated ___".

There are fouler words than that used on Prime Time television. While I don't agree that children should be exposed to those things, you going to have a hard time telling that to the Motion Picture Association who does all the ratings. I think your best bet is to ignore it and hope you children know it's an inappropriate word in thie home; or, if they say something, remind them that this is not a word used in your family.

I think it's tough to please everyone. In DH's household growing up and even now, the word fart is absolutely unheard of. I can't tell you how many movies, television shows, and whatnot it's on. What some people consider a curse word, others do not. The Motion Picture Association is the one that makes those broad sweeping judgments.

I agree. I thought that hell was said twice in the movie. DH said that it was "hill". He and I disagreed with what was said there. For that reason I know that we will not be purchasing this movie for our video collection at home.
I know that we all have differing opinions, obviously. To me, damn is a curse word. We do not use it at our home. I try my best to not let my children see movies or shows that have it. Rated G, I thought, meant no cursing so I assumed the previews would be the same. I didn't mean to stir up a debate in cursing. I just wondered if all of the "Cars" shows were showing the same preview.
