Clockwise to close, counter clockwise to open. Righty tighty, lefty loosy, that's the way it should be. All the breadmakers do it the opposite, they all seal their bread by twisting to left. That is very annoying. Why is that? Breadmakers please weigh in. Are you outsourcing this to the chinese?

I do counter-clockwise to close, but that's a learned preference. I learned it from Mrs. Tex, who's left handed. When I twist clockwise, it confuses her.

I'm right handed, but for some reason I open and close twist ties with my left hand.

I can honestly say I have absolutely no idea which way I twist a bread tie. I guess it's just an action that comes naturally without thought.

I've never come across a loaf of bread that was twisted from the factory to the left. It's always been the proper righty tighty way.

Our bread is the same. It is annoying because I do the same as you (righty tighty) and I end up making it harder to open, just out of habit.

What bread still has twist ties? Most seem to have those flat plastic tab closures which often break the third or fourth time you use them.

As for actual twist ties, I have no idea which way I twirl them. It never enters my thought process.

Me neither...granted I don't buy bread too often but I couldn't even begin to guess which way I turn a twisty tie. It's not something that ever tricked me up so I never thought about it.

I am right handed and close clockwise. My wife is left handed and closes counter clockwise. Very annoying.

The problem is this, when bread comes from the factory, they twist the tie to the left so tight, you cant see which way it's twisted. So applyiing the righty tighty, lefty losey method, I twist to the left to open the package only to find out I am closing it even tighter.

Clockwise, duh. Then I asked my boyfriend and he said he does counter-clockwise, so now we're going to have to figure out if this relationship has a future.

It should take all of one second (maybe 2 if you aren't paying attention) to figure out if your twist tie is untieing or not. If not, you go in the other direction. So at worst its taking you a couple of seconds longer, but only the first time you open the bag. How can this be such a source of angst that it requires a thread of its own? Maybe you need to switch to a brand of bread that uses the plastic tabs instead.

Clock-wise. DH, however, wraps the twist tie around and around, like a candy cane. Drives me crazy.
