Twinkle Toe Shoes cause epileptic seizures?

10. I'm glad I bought my DD these very cute shoes. She will not be little girl much longer. I'm enjoying the little girly things as long as I can.
11. The principle told me in car line today not to worry about the shoes, there is no problem with shoes, DD can wear them.

Teenagers (older ones at that) at the Y wear those shoes. Has NOTHING to do with being a little girl.

Any transfers out of the class? Kids being pulled out? etc?

Or I'd guess that something got passed along up to the principal and was changed during the passing along, and now he's realized that the original was different from what he got. While I'm glad that your daughter got to wear them, I'm sad how callous so many people were. We're not all automatons, and things can affect people that you'd never think is possible. Some people are the "canaries in a coal mine", where they notice things that others don't...

OK, I just got through pages 20-28. And I do think most people seem to be very insensitive, if not callous, about a child's seizure disorder.

It's not about the school having to be PC "whatever that means". Its about the health of a child.

Some posters seem cold, very cold. So your child's fashion should come before another child's health?

Since bullying is a big deal for school, not allowing a parent or teacher to bully a student over shoes is unacceptable. Other students in the school are wearing the shoes. When a student is singled out, you know something is wrong.

Also most of can see that the request was full of crap. If indeed it was a medical issue the school would have dealt with the shoes in the proper way, like banning them for the whole school. Which I would not have a problem with that because I do think they are annoying for school, but that is just my subjective opinion.;)

You know...now I just know I am going to run into these OBNOXIOUS shoes in places like a dark theatre (and you know kids can't keep their feet still or off the seat in front of them) and in the dark rides at WDW. That's what I need....stupid obnoxious twinkle toe shoes dangling over my head like a disco ball on Soarin', or ruining the dark rides.

Like Heelies. Obnoxious shoes.

:rotfl2:

Why on earth would that happen? There is no medical issue in the school.

I loved the look of a pair of light up shoes for my daughter. They were really stylish. I however suffer from seizures so just testing the shoes on her was a bit much. It was very unexpected i didnt know that they lit up. I put them down and didn't buy them. Low light high light it is very possible to have a seizure because of them. Those shoes also have other side effects for children. It's actually hard to stay focused when wearing those shoes for kids nearby as well. Being that I have seizures these are deemed dangerous in my eyes they are harmful and can become fatal. Im just a parent that doesn't like fashion to the point where its deadly. Falling out being unconcious bitting your tongue hurts like you couldn't imagine. Atleast you know for future not to buy them hopefully.

Very odd first post, too...

Deadly fashion?

Blinking shoes have never been conclusively linked to seizures.

However, back in the 80's, there were shoes that had mercury switches in the LED lights. Which is, you know, poisonous and kind of alarming to be strapping to your child's feet. Also, more recently, there have been a few reports of old batteries in more modern (and mercury-free) blinking shoes melting down and even sparking small fires when exposed to extreme heat. The takeaway from that, though, seems to be just to check your child's shoes periodically to see if they feel hot and never leave them in the car in the middle of summer, or on a radiator in winter.
