Twin names

Tom Clancy fans?

Oy w/the doc. It depends when the egg splits - rarer to have separate sacs/placentas but it certainly happens.

Funny about Tom Clancy... I do like him, but that actually had nothing to do with it and almost stopped me from using Ryan! I loved both names and Jack was named after my Mom Mom Jean.... we had "twin B's" middle name picked out to be named after my uncle but didn't want to use it for a first name, and we just could not decide on a 2nd first name... it was getting BAD... I really liked Ryan but was worried about the reference to Jack Ryan.... Most people seem to be not very well read it seems! ;)

I like Charlotte, Caroline, Olivia for girls names.

DH's sisters are twins....SOOOOO not identical that they barely look like sisters let alone twins.

DB's wife is a twin. She and her sister are fraternal but look so much alike they could be identical. When they used to have the same bob type hairstyle, I couldn't tell them apart. Now my sister-in-law has colored her hair a bit and let it grow longer, so it's easier to tell. Even their voices sound similar.

Thanks for the input. :goodvibes We've got plenty of time to come up with a second name and I'm sure we'll find something that we like... just nothing from the social security index of popular names is standing out to me. The 2 names we have so far (DD and one of the babies') were both popular in the 1910s so I want to stick around that era for the 3rd name. So feel free to throw out some ideas!!

DD is named Violet. One of the babies will be named Eleanor Rose. The other E name that both DH & I like is Eliza. I just realized this now -- they're both El- names. Maybe that's not such a good idea. They're both going to have R- middle names as well since the rest of us do.

DH has already vetoed Amelia, Hazel (my FAVE!!!) and Josephine. He's contemplating Matilda and Cordelia.

Who wants to hit me with some period name suggestions? :)

Congrats on the twins!

I like Eleanor and Eliza, I don't think they are matchy-matchy, but they do go together. I honestly can't believe your dh vetoed your 3 choices, they are so much better than his! I'm partial to Hazel, my friend just had a baby in Oct and her name is Hazel :lovestruc

I'm going to offer this suggestion:
Do not repeat what my old neighbor did.
Luke and Leah

now she SWEARS she had never seen Star Wars,,,and sure, that's possible, but her DH? I would have changed the names as soon as someone explained to me how iconic they were, due to a sci-fi movie!
Also, as far as figuring a nick name or chortened version will be used, yeah, it will at the start of every new school year the kid will be called by their legal version that you have to file with the office, and trust me, no matter HOW many times you or your kid says they go by __________, not the formal version, there is going to be that teacher/office aide/substitute whomever, that is going to ignore the name you request being used. I would go for seperate names..especially when you say it out loud, for example just a few famous Disney pairings:
Mickey/Minnie
Donald/Daisy
Tweetle Dee/Tweetle Dum
Ariel/Eric
Belle/Beast
Pongo/Perdita

not to mention Huey, Dewey and Louie

I like Adeline, always have...and Elsie but Elsie doesn;t help at all with the E L issue, now does it?

Heh the latter is so true.

I actually know the - no fooling - person Ariel the character was named after. The person was named after the Shakespeare character.

Her mother is an OB who happened to have a Disney mucky muck as a patient and she, the OB, was pregnant with twins around the time the movie was in development. The exec asked about the baby's names - they're two girls, both with Shakespearian names, they only needed one, Ariel it was.

Everyone, but everyone, thinks the girl was named after the Disney character, which obviously no one guesses it was the other way around, but even when she clarifies her name is actually after the Shakespeare character, it gets 'huh?' As her sister's name is not shared with a Disney princess, most don't know where it's from, though it's a more famous character, literature wise.

Haha, I'm pushing for Cordelia Rose for our little girl that's due in May, but DH says that it's way too much of a Buffy reference. :lmao:

FWIW, I agree that Eleanor and Eliza are too "matchy" for twins. I LOVE both names (I wish my DH would agree on Eleanor, as well!!!) but it's just too similar. Especially if they are identical... I think the girls would end up mistaken for each other quite a bit if they looked alike AND had really similar "El" names.

Eleanor and Adeline, I'm liking it...but you know they will be nick-named Ellie and Addie...;)

Congrats!
Personally, I love the name Eliza that you have on your short list, but how about spelling it Aliza instead?

Oh, and congrats on your twins btw!!! Twins are awesome! I was scared out of my mind when I first heard that I was having them I will admit, and the first year was a blur...but they are the BEST!

(And...my twins are even easier than my singleton!)

We actually won't know that until birth... or even later if it's hard to tell & we end up having to do genetic testing on them. They've got their own placentas and sacks so originally, they were fraternal. But now that we know they're the same gender, they could be fraternal OR identical. We won't find out until the arrive & either look alike or don't! It's kind of fun, thinking about it. :)

I really like Matilda but I'm afraid we'd be prone to call her Mattie... and one of my BIL's, whom I can't stand, is named Matt. So that's something to consider.

Still loving Cordelia though... we can call her Corrie or Delia and actually, I was talking to DH's grandma about their family tree (I'm big into genealogy) and it turns out DH's great-great-great grandma was Cordelia. Plus we're huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. :rolleyes1 It just doesn't seem to have the "commonness" that Eleanor and Violet have. Yes, they're old... but Eleanor & Violet seem to be much more recognizable than Cordelia is.

Or maybe I'm stretching it a bit, lol.

I went to school with a Matilda, and everyone called her Tilly. :goodvibes It fit her really well.

What about Cora?

Or Cecelia?

I LOVE Cora!! Or Coraline, with Cora for a nickname. Too cute.

As far as other 1910-ish names go, I'm partial to these:

Alice (although probably fairly popular now with all the Twilight stuff)
Lillian
Josephine
Grace
Lucille/Lucy
Eva (or maybe even Evangeline)
Stella
Adeline
Amelia
Ruby

:yay::yay:Congratulations!

I have twin girls who just turned 10. before I knew I was having two, I was trying to figure out what nickname to use with Dorean Adair (names to honor loved ones) Dori or Addy...

When I learned I was having twins, I knew those names could be used for middle names. (YAY!) DH and I like Hannah, and he selected Emma for baby B. We didn't share names with our family until after they were born.

They both have the same last sound, but I don't know if it was a concern. I think parents select siblings names that work together.

Regardless of names, they will still be known to some as "the twins" and you will be the "mom of the twins."

I don't think there is a problem with two "E" names, but because they will both have "R" middle names, my opinion is to not have two "E" names. They would then have the same initials...

I guess knowing what I do now, I would not use two of the same first letter. My girls have initial jewelry, initial journals, towels, blankets. I love personalized items and family buys my girls gifts with names or initials.

Congrats!
Personally, I love the name Eliza that you have on your short list, but how about spelling it Aliza instead?

Oh please, please don't do that. The poor child will spend her entire life correcting people who have to write her name.

Love your names so far!!! I don't think your El names sound too matchy, they blend but don't rhyme or anything.

DD#2 has the middle name Rose, I wanted to use it as her first name. LOL on Cora, I like it too but it's my gma's name and she has always HATED it. She uses her initials instead.

A co-worker just had twins last night & named the girl Josephine.

How about Pearl? Also adore Charlotte and Adele for girls.

I agree.

I think you are stuck with them being the twins or the girls. My girls are very close in age but not twins and they are always lumped together as "the girls."

Congrats! My dd's name is Eliza so I'm partial ;).

Charlotte
Elizabeth
Evelyn
Julia
Lillian
Vivian

And I also like Eliza!

All of these are such pretty, classic names. My daughter is Julia, I've never regretted her name.

A friend's daughter just had a baby and named her Genevieve. I think that is so pretty too.

We just found out this morning that we're having twin girls! :cutie::cutie:

So now we've got to find names for these kiddos. We already have on girl's name picked out for sure. It starts with an E. There's only one other girl's name that we both really like and it starts with an E as well.

So what's your opinion on twin names -- should they both be very separate and distinctive or is it OK to be a little matchy-matchy?

I always thought that they need to be very separate. DH has younger brothers that are twins and their names rhyme and you just end up ALWAYS lumping them together that way. Or, everyone calls them "the twins"... which I just HATE. I don't want them always grouped together like that; I really want them to be their own person.

But in a way I also feel a little bit silly eliminating a name that we like just because it starts with a certain letter. Altering the spelling isn't an option either as both DH and I like names to be spelled their traditional, classic way instead of some silly, invented spelling.

OK so my sisters and I are all M's. (3) My mom is all J's (5) and my Dad is all R's (3)

I didn't carry it forward with my children and neither did my sisters. I do not regret being one of the M&M&M's though. Kinda sweet. :)

When you see your babies their names will be evident no matter what you think you have picked prior. Congratulations on your wonderful news!!

I say they're your kids, and to do what you want and what you like.

I see nothing wrong with ever-so-slightly matching names, or names that "go together". I went to Grammar School with an Adam and an Andy - twins. It was odd. So very cloooose names. Weird.

I say your girls should be Cathryn and Rose. :rolleyes1
