Twin names

I would go with distinct names that do not start with the same letter. However I would make sure they are similar in style. For example I would not do Eleanor and Makayla or Hazel and Reagan for example.

I LOVE Mathilda - it's one of my latest favorites. I know a second grader with that name and it's adorable.

For me Eleanor and Eliza are super matchy and too cutesy together if you want to avoid that sort of thing.

Also, if the twins are identical I'd root even harder for very seperate names.

We actually won't know that until birth... or even later if it's hard to tell & we end up having to do genetic testing on them. They've got their own placentas and sacks so originally, they were fraternal. But now that we know they're the same gender, they could be fraternal OR identical. We won't find out until the arrive & either look alike or don't! It's kind of fun, thinking about it. :)

I really like Matilda but I'm afraid we'd be prone to call her Mattie... and one of my BIL's, whom I can't stand, is named Matt. So that's something to consider.

Still loving Cordelia though... we can call her Corrie or Delia and actually, I was talking to DH's grandma about their family tree (I'm big into genealogy) and it turns out DH's great-great-great grandma was Cordelia. Plus we're huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. :rolleyes1 It just doesn't seem to have the "commonness" that Eleanor and Violet have. Yes, they're old... but Eleanor & Violet seem to be much more recognizable than Cordelia is.

Or maybe I'm stretching it a bit, lol.

I have twins- boy and girl. I did names that both started with an "A". my mom came up with the names and we went with it. :thumbsup2 Happy we did!

I've had at least one set of twins in my preschool classes every year since I started teaching in this preschool 5 years ago. This year, I have two sets. None of them had matchy names. They are all individuals. None of them are ever dressed alike either. I'm glad (especially for identical twins! dressing them alike is hard on preschool teachers!)

My girl/girl twins this year are Vivian and Abigail. :)

I'd totally not go with same letter names and especially not with names with the same first two letters - people often shorten names to that too, so there will be people all 'El, pass me the...' and Liz/Liza and yeah, that'd be a mistake imo.

Mary? Period, classic.

Haagen and Daz?

Mac and cheese?

Hillary?

Do they really determine identical/fraternal based on LOOKS if there are two placentas? Isn't it cheap enough by now to get a screen done and find out for sure?

I am a b/g twin and I hate matchy matchy names, the term "the twins", and matching outfits. Thankfully being a b/g twin we weren't exposed to as much of it but we still got lumped together a lot. I still hate sharing a birthday!

IMHO, Eliza and Eleanor are too matchy. I'd probably try and find another name. What about Katrina? Lots of other great suggestions on this thread.

My mom's name choices were Kelly and Kristen and Joseph and Jeffrey. Thankfully we were b/g so she went with Kelly and Joseph and those weren't too matchy.

I know two sets of identicals. One is Heath and Keith and the other is Ella and Emma. Ick!

I think the OP said they could have some tests run if they can't tell.

Preliminarily, yeah, by looks. As in -- "these kids don't look alike, there's no way they're identical". If they look quite a bit alike though, they'll order the testing to verify.

Or at least that's what the doctor at the MFM office told us today. I guess we'll just wait and see. :confused3

My brother and I look extraordinarily alike even though we're different genders & 3 years apart. We look more alike than DH's twin (fraternal) brothers do, actually. So for me, appearance doesn't seem to be a good factor to go on.

I looked at our family tree and some names from that time period are:

Alice
Catherine or Kate
Charlotte
Dorothy
Evelyn
Florence
Helen
Irene
Jane
Lillian
Louise
Marion
Mary
Mildred
Sarah
Veronica

Mary and Catherine seem to be the most popular names at that time period in our family tree. I think Cordelia is a lovely name.

I like Charlotte, Kate and Louise. I have a niece named Louise and she's just the cutest kid.

That's why I can't believe looks are even a factor nowadays. I too know people who look ridiculously alike despite not being identical (or twins, or the same gender, heh) and went to school with a set of identical twins who actually didn't look so alike, due to a number of factors including different styles, haircuts, etc., but they were also somewhat different heights and just facially weren't identical, which may have been some nutritional things or whatever but people never believed them to be identical, though they were.

Thanks for the input. :goodvibes We've got plenty of time to come up with a second name and I'm sure we'll find something that we like... just nothing from the social security index of popular names is standing out to me. The 2 names we have so far (DD and one of the babies') were both popular in the 1910s so I want to stick around that era for the 3rd name. So feel free to throw out some ideas!!

DD is named Violet. One of the babies will be named Eleanor Rose. The other E name that both DH & I like is Eliza. I just realized this now -- they're both El- names. Maybe that's not such a good idea. They're both going to have R- middle names as well since the rest of us do.

DH has already vetoed Amelia, Hazel (my FAVE!!!) and Josephine. He's contemplating Matilda and Cordelia.

Who wants to hit me with some period name suggestions? :)

What's Violet's middle name?

some suggestions... Claire, Sadie, Sophie, Daisy, Della, Nettie, Adeline, Addie, Eloise

My FIL is an idential twin and their names are Donald and Ronald. Even the knick names rhyme! Uncle Ron was congratulated by 1/2 of our wedding and the photographer got pissed at him when he was walking to the reception. He testily said "I NEED the father of the groom to come back." My poor FIL was standing right there! :)

In the same family there are twin girls who are all Mae something-MaeAlice, MaeBelle (pronounced May Bell not mabel). It's confusing for everyone and i hear the mother often go "mae come here. it doesn't matter which one."

So, basiclly i think distrinct names with different letters is the way to go.

lara

ah just read some of the other replies. I really like Cordelia.

My twin sister and I are Dena and Dona.

I was told by my high risk pregnancy doc that my boys twins were not identical since they had their own sacs... As they were getting older, around 2 yrs... it became clearer and clearer that they just looked too alike that we were questioning if this was true. We had them DNA tested and sure enough they were identical 99.99987%!

I didn't go for matchy names... Ryan and Jack.

Tom Clancy fans?

Oy w/the doc. It depends when the egg splits - rarer to have separate sacs/placentas but it certainly happens.
